Well depends really on what guage you are intending to use it on. If O gauge I would suggest MIGO which is a Roger Murray company which produces excellent smoke units, if OO guage the First Class Trains does a smoke unit however I feel that this may be too "steamy" if you know what I mean.
Hope this helps.

Cheers Richard :D

Perhaps you could make a small fire inside the body and feed bits of paper every few loops   8)

First Class Trains does a kit for diesel exhaust.

Basicially its an air tight box which has a smoke unit fitted and a fan in one end. The box fills up with smoke vapor and then when the loco starts moveing the fan forces the vapor though the exhaust ports. They reccogmend placing contacts between the rails which contact on studs on the bottom of the fuel tanks of the loco. This powers up the smoke genetator fills the box with smoke vapor and then when the loco moves off you get the clag then as no more smoke is produced the exaust becomes thinner towards the end of the journy.

That sounds great but a bit technical.

I plan to get one but from what I can see they provide the technical wireing and let you choose whether you want to power the smoke unit from the track or from the stud method I mentaind.

The hardest part will be makeing the box to match the curve in the roof and it wont fit inside the modern Bachmann offerings.

Yeh, if its to go in a bachmann tractor you have next to no chance, the metal chassis and can motor fill the inside of the body :(

As is the case with nearly all modern locos, thinking about it!

I suppose your best bet would be to re motor a lima loco and detail it...

Australian Modeltorque, they make motors that just clip into the lima motor housing....

Look here

http://www.freewebs.com/norwoodpark/howto.htm

and

http://www.modeltorque.com.au

They are quite cheap!

Then all you do is do the usual A1 detailing bits and bobs
