Bachmann Class 08 Shunter Problems

I have just brought a Bachmann Class 08 shunter in BR Blue Livery. I have only had the loco for two weeks and it has started playing up. The loco stutters and stops on straight track and over points but runs fine round the 2nd radius corners. My layout is always nice and clean on proper board - I am confident this is not a problem with 'fluff' contaminating the wheels or engine - indeed, the wheels are as clean as the day I bought it. Any idea what the problem might be?

I have read that the wipers need to be bent slightly so that they push up against the back of the wheel more.

It's a design fault by bachmann from what I remember... don't the wipers toutch the top/bottom of the wheel instead of the back, or something? Because of their positioning, dirt collects on them and they need regular cleaning. I *THINK* this may have been corrected on later releases, although I wouldn't swear to it.

There was a press release on the bacchy site about it a while back, so pretty important.

They are apparently fixing it this year, and might be fitting a DCC socket as well.

I wonder why....?

I had a problem with my Bachmann 08.

It was squeeking.

I oiled the outside fames where the connecting rods poke though and it cured the problem.

Has anyone elce had this problem?

I had a problem with my bachmann Jinty in that the pick-ups were nowhere near the wheels, the slight sideways movement in the chassis on a corner was enough to line them up, but they wouldn't work proper on the straight. 5 minutes with a pair of pliers sorted that one out though.
