Hi all

As you all know Hornby Lima etc equip all thier locos with the most uglyest and most unrealistic cupling attatchments, which stick out and spoil the rest of the model which I'm sure you all agree.


I've seen galleries of 37's and other locos with modlifed front and back ends. They look fantastic with brake pipes etc, I just wounder if they actually work, not for show! (no I don't mean do they actually barke the train via vacume braking!) I'm wondering if they actually can pull a rake of wahtever behind them using these very realistic looking couplers.

I would say no, because they just clip into holes and would either just pull out or as they are very thin pieces of plastic would just snap.. you have to be very careful with super detailing as parts break very easily as I found out with a buffer on my Bachmann deltic, luckily I got full support and a free replacement buffer.

You could fit kadee couplings which are smaller, check out the Dugglethorpe layout, the builder of that layout uses such couplers.

Ive fitted three-link coupleings to one of my 37's and used another as a barrier wagon with a three-link coupling on one end and a tention lock on the other . They look very realistic.

You can see them together at the Boston Model Railway Societys Exabition at Stickney Village Hall just off the A16 5 miles north of Boston on the 18th & 19th of September .

The Bachmann mini tention lock cuplings look better then the Hornby type . There smaller and slimmer. Ive just bought a Bachmann Class 25 with these cuplings and removed one to fit the extra buffer beam attechments. this makes the 'front' of the loco look more realistic and still enables the loco to pull the train. If the tention lock wasn't mounted on the bogie I could have fitted some of the pipes to the other side due to the slim line shape. But allas the coupling swings on the bogie when it goes round a corner .
