How's the layout going?
I now have a new PC so I can enjoy your Woodhead Route in all of its glory, the old one just couldn't hack it.

Progress on the layout has been slow but I have started to add the wooden fascia and backscene. I have recently bought a polystyrene cutter so now the fun can really begin.

I have also wired up all of the point motors on the scenic part of the layout and created a virtual control panel on the PC to control them from.

Cheers

Out of interested what are you using as your interface to the PC?

I am using a system developed by MERG (Model Electronics Railway Group) http://www.merg.org.uk/ that allows all the points to be controlled using just 4 wires and is also compatible with DCC. The actual PC interface uses a RS232 link through the serial port to an adaptor.

There are currently a couple of applications written that allow the layout to be controlled but I decided I would write my own (programming is my day job). Commands are just simply N or R followed by the point address.

Hi All

Just a quick update.

The layout has been progressing slowly I have installed 2/3s of the required point motors. I have also taken the plunge with a Lenz Set 100 for controlling the locos and the Lenz LI-USB interface for programming and possible automated layout control.

I have also finished a few more wagons

Nice to see you are toying with going 2mm finescale - maybe our paths will cross. Maybe you can come along to the Basingstoke show in March - we should have some 2mm bits and pieces on display somewhere.

Hi

Another wagon finished.

Progress on the layout has been slow. All the point motors are now installed and wired up. I really need to start work on the scenery but I just can't seem to get the inclination to do it.

Thanks very much for going to the trouble of taking these pictures. They most certainly will be of use to me. It is a good job I didn't just go ahead with the small amount of information I had otherwise the two sides of the bridge would both have been made from metal girders not as shown in the pictures.

I am planning to make a trip to Godley Junction at some point next year as I need to get a feel for the area but these pictures will allow me to get the bridge constructed over the winter.

Once again thank you.

Cheers

Hi

Well its only taken three years but I have made a start on building the bridge over Brookfold Lane. Hopefully will have some pictures to show the progress at the weekend.

Now Autumn has arrived and the light nights are disappearing I should have more time. I plan by Spring 2007 to complete the scenery on the Brookfold Sidings part of the layout and make a start on installing the catenary.

Next project after the bridge will be Brookfold Sidings signal box (I will have to guess what the rear elevation looks like as I have never seen a picture of it).

Edit Pictures of the progress of the bridge so far at

Hi. Your layout is something of a benchmark for me. Even though we model in different scales, there is something just right about your model of Godley junction. If i can get my layout finished to even anywhere near yours, i'll be a happy man! Keep up the excellent work.
