Hi Sean I'm from Belfast and I've bought 3 CDs from UKTrainsim - well, two from them (Ballyshannon and Mid-east UK, and one, Vern Moorehouse's 6-route compilation from linked site Trainsim UK) and can vouch for the excellent service, first-class products, and lack of any follow-up junk mail. The per...

Is the reference rail SUPPOSED to be offset?
Trying to build a UTA railcar with TSM. Going reasonably wall so far despite being a complete novice. Building the wheelsets, & lining them up with the reference rail, I noticed that this rail is offset - in the front view, the rail centre is offset several inches to the R as I look at it. This is i...

Sean's suggestion worked exactly as advertised - I was able to select a cross section of points in the side view using a mouse select box, then having locked the appropriate axes, drag each cross section to the cab end for re-sizing. Thanks Sean, and to baldwin & richard for the other tips which I'l...

Roger on that, looking good! Hit my first hitch with TSM earlier but I think I've got it sussed now. Quite satisfying to see things taking shape before your very eyes even if it's gonna be long haul. Could even be quite fun this. Not enough hours in the day unfortunately. So the co-operation will be...

I think I worked it out, reading the manual - probably I caused the part to become 2unstructured" by moving/deleting a point - confusing because the cross-sections still seemed to be there implying it was still structured. I'll repeat this time using the loco tutorial ie instead of extruding from a ...

TSM - cross section mode greyed out!!!
Completely new to TSM (and 3d modelling s/w for that matter) & have hit a problem on day 1 of first project. Making a UTA DMU ("MPD"). Made a coach body by extruding roof & tumblehome sides from a box, sitting on top of another box as underframe (2 separate parts not joined yet). Made the body in 3 ...

Thanks Mark, now i've got another incentive to keep at this! Yep, the early livery on the ribbed-body MEDs would be "interesting", not sure tho how the lined ribs would look at a distance and at moderate screen res. That livery was gone before I was old enough to remember seeing it. The big "U" devi...

OK, I'll model using actual dimensions and ignore the fact the track is theoretically standard gauge. Haven't got any further than scanning in and scaling the background drawing yet, will give me something to extrude out to. TSM seems like quite a good package for a newbie, looks like it will be ted...

Taking a few drawings at random, the GNR(I) Class B4 diner, built Dundalk 1950, is shown as 9'6" over pillars; Class B1 built 1933 is the same. UTA MED (DMU) Front Power Car F Class 8/10/12 built Duncrue 1952 is 9' 5.25". By contrast, the ex-LMS non-corridor coaches converted to railcar trailers for...

Sorry, wasn't explaining myself very well. The coach bodies of most MEDs and MPDs are 9' 5.5" wide over pillars, or thereabouts - I've a lot of drawings of GNR coaches too and these are in the same bracket, 9'8", and 9'9" in some cases. AFAIK most GB coaches - like those of the slam-door coaches con...

What loading guage when building Irish models?
Recall seeing something about this but can't find it now. Never built any 3d models before but have got Train Sim Modeler and it looks passably user-friendly so am going to have a go at an MPD36-39 type. For compatibility with other stuff like the BUTs, CIE stock etc what's the best convention re lo...

Well Andy, you made my day! Worth waiting for, not TOO long I dare hope...I had many a memorable trip to the seaside in those sets in my day...steam-hauled excursions to Portrush always seemed to produce a dollop of soot in the eye when leaning out the windows, never a hazard with the diesels..they ...

Thanks for the welcome! Sort of like that, the MEDs (Multi-Engined Diesels) look quite like BR Class 101 DMUs but with sliding doors and later ones had ribbed sides and some had flatter roof profiles. Rather advanced for their day, lasted in service till the late 1970s. The MPDs (Multi-Purpose Diese...

Anyone making UTA/NIR railcars?
I mean, the MED or MPD types? A few years back I finally made some OO models of these after having to make do with the like of a re-painted Tri-ang MetCamm when I was a kid. Now I'm making a start with MSTS (have TRS2004 too) I'm back to having to repaint MetCamms again. The Hunslett, Mk2 stock and ...
