Re: It's 40 Years Since Decimalisation In The UK
The great advantage of the old system was its ease of division. Take the decimal system and see how many fractions - halves, thirds, quarters etc - you can get out of it, then try it with the old. It beats the decimal system hands down and was precisely why it was the way it was.

Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
Yes, the downloadables are all freeware but I think there is a need for activity writers to support route/stock creators by using new stock as it is uploaded else we would still be using what came out of the box, originally. But we have no control over how these are made.

Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
I have been running MSTS now for a long time and I have to admit that unfortunately the Hydraulic Cross country route has caused me more problems than almost any other that I can remember. Tony There is no reason you shouldn't have been able to get this working, especially given the assistance you ...

Re: Bath to Bournemouth (Yet another S&D)
Hi Clive
Having done one cause celebre in the S&D, the Great Central probably would probably be another popular route. The L&Y system might have some operating and scenic interest also.
Many thanks for your work so far!

Re: HS2 -- Is it worth it?
There comes a point at which the higher the speed the bigger the headway required and thus the fewer train you can actually run. Someone did explain the maths of this to me but I can't recall the details. Peter It's to do with braking distance. I saw the maths done for a motorway and it turns out t...

Re: HS2 -- Is it worth it?
One wonders why Network Rail just spent billions upgrading the West Coast main line if the majority of the customers to use HS2 will come from it. Duplicate lines anyone? And will the pricing of the passenger services be much like the Virgin model on the WCML where the Pendolino prices are so much h...

Re: Snow Warning: Britain Set For Winter Blast
I suppose we all to busy questioning the existence of God. Perhaps we should question the existence of commonsense. I agree. I was ticked off a few weeks ago for standing the wrong side of the yellow line on a station platform. When I explained that I could see that there was obviously nothin...

Re: Snow Warning: Britain Set For Winter Blast
No more snow here since yesterday. Compared to other areas, the Midlands have got off very lightly so far.

Re: Snow Warning: Britain Set For Winter Blast
No snow here yet (Banbury,Oxfordshire.), only a matter of time I would say, cloudy and cold about -2C. -2? Gosh, that's warmed up a bit since I caught my train at Banbury this morning at 6.57. My car said -5 and there was what looked like needle/rod shaped snow blowing about in the air (though not ...

Re: A Tribute to the Community - Give Thanks
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=238&t=110637 was the posting in the General MSTS forum. I note that the poll details appears to have been made a sticky over there; whilst this wasn't - possibly that caused the lack of exposure as other posts over took it and pushed it down the page? If...

Hi Dave, :P Something for the weekend Sir? There's got to be a joke in that phrase! Gooed luck Doug Here you are: When I was 16 and there were still barber shops in my town, I observed the preceding customer in the barber's chair being offered 'something for the weekend' and a discreet transaction ...
