Assuming that they have not been altered since they were imported, the Garratts will be 10'-4" and the 2-8-2s 10'-5" to the top of the chimney. (In working order on new springs!). My drawings don't quote widths, but a decent sized one scales 7'-6" over Garratt cab steps, which is the limit of the SA...

There's not much to guess when the railway's name and the engine's number are on the side ! - but it is thoroughly recognisable without. - Have you got a route in mind for it?

Thanks for the positive response. Yes they're 18in gauge, built to 2x and running on X tracks narrow gauge, which means that the frame spacings and cylinder centres don't have to be adjusted. But they aren't all steam... (and although Ramsbottom set the precedents in 18in gauge works railways at the...

The Groudle coaches are very small, to go with the locos which are absolutely tiny, you get the impression that you could pick them up and put them in your pocket. Woto has a cab you can stand in without banging your head, whereas the Groudle engines are driven from a seat.

A lot depends on what you want to run. If you like things like the imported Garratts, you'll need to work to allow for vehicles, 8' wide and 11' tall. Running this on the Talyllyn gives the strange effect of boiler mountings and cab ploughing through masonry. The VoR 2-6-2s are likewise 8' over bunk...

Thanks very much for the positive comments! No sooner had I rushed into print and declared that Armisitice could be reskinned as Pixie than I realised that you can't - the nameplate is in the wrong place, and Pixie has no cab back sheet. 6 months ago I had the idea of something of the old 009 Variki...

The Polar Bear cab now flies straight and level - some shots taken on the 3 track bit at Meru town with some other similar locos nearby

I should stress that the Polar Bear cab shot is of an early try out - it will look much neater than that - the boiler won't look ilke it was wrenched from Armistice and the brake spindle will be concentric with the standard etc etc

You can all judge the cab etc for yourselves, as the 2 are now available for download on UKTS. A last minute hitch with the 2x small one delayed things a day or two.

Hope you had a good time in the sun. I've just downloaded Lyn, put in an American NG cab view and taken her for a late night spin on the Abogeta Joint Light Railway. Running at night is officially not allowed (it gets dark on the equator by 7:00pm), but the crew couldn't resist it. Wonderful stuff -...

[album 80724 xtarm1.jpg thumblink] The X tracks version proved very simple, so here she is pulling some Barsi stock out of Llanfair C. I didn't even try Golfa with this load. These engines were built in a wide range of gauges - Woto was built to 3'-6" and there was very nearly a loco of the same siz...

[album 80724 bagrel1.jpg thumblink] These 2 are ready for release - the others will follow later. How does one present these things these days? I build stuff truescale and I suspect that most narrow gauge people are confirmed fiddlers and hackers and can rescale their own, but I can put 2x versions ...
