This is not as weird as the Webb compound, though there are certain unique features about it.

Re: Another 2'-6" loco

As you say the loco has inside cylinders, there being no room to put them outside. The two outer coupled axles steer and the Klose mechanism is a device to effectively shorten the coupling rods on the inside of the curve and lengthen those on the outside. Re: Another 2'-6" loco

After the relative ease of converting the Webb compound between gauges, I have dug out something I started years ago: the Klose was one of many 19th century attempts to get more powerful engines around sharp bends. This one took off in Bosnia Herzegovina and as the lines were 2'-6" gauge and the Wel...

Re: Another 2'-6" loco

Thanks very much - I have now produced a true-scale version as well as the existing one and found it a lot easier than I thought it would be. I hope to have both uploaded this week.

Re: Another 2'-6" loco

Getting near the end, just a few more details to add, and then comes the problem of sounds, a Webb compound only has 2 chuffs per revolution

Re: A 2ft gauge tank

I have found the picture, from the Narrow Gauge winter 1973-4 which has 2 of the Durham engines, one of the Barclays, and one of the Avonsides; the latter certainly has the dome well back behind the sandboxes. The picture was taken in the 1950s and I had assumed that all the engines on it were scrap...

Re: A 2ft gauge tank

They are lovely locos - I saw 'Marchlyn' in steam at Statfold last year and it inspired me for this model. It seems from my studies that 'Elidir' is the odd one out - the dome being closer to the cab being the main difference. Cheers, Ben There were 5 of these engines built for Durham Corporation, ...
