I was just pondering the irony of why I contributed a long thread about how we best ensure the supply of new routes and models into the future when I can't find time to play more than a fraction of what is already available! Even if nothing get's released between now and then and MSTS2 doesn't appea...

I just though I'd add my 2p worth... I have neither the time nor the ability to do any development myself. So I need other people to do it for me. If they are happy to do it for nowt, I'm delighted, BUT I have no right to expect it. If I'm asked to pay a few pounds for an add-on I am perfectly willi...

I've no problem with anyone mentioning Trainz. However, those of us with long enough memories will remember that the Phillips V2000 and Betamax were arguably technically superior to VHS, but VHS had the software. It's not a great analogy as nobody could afford two videos back then, but even if I hav...

Having read all the posts I am still not convinced that there is all that much that can/should be done about this. Outside of the trainsim community freeware tends to mean exactly that. Free of licencing fees and freely distributable. The main caveats are usually that the software must be distribute...

I can just picture the look on my wife's face when the flat back truck pulls up in the road outside with the new 'garden shed'

Don't forget that there is no either/or here. I'll probably get around to buying TRAINZ 2004, but I'll wait and see how people get on with it first. My personal theory with MSTS2 is that Microsoft are probably in the process of funding someone to contract out the development to, as I can't really se...

I should have added you won't find Pro Trains 1 in the shops as it was published as 'Rhine Valley' in the UK, but they are one and the same.

I liked pro-train 1. It was an early-add on and has been bettered now, but if you search around it can be had quite cheaply. To call it a waste of money is a bit harsh. The scenery at times is stunning and travelling on top of the train listening to the ambient sounds and admiring the scenery is qui...

I'd second the advice about camcorders. They will produce stills on a par with a very cheap digital camera (something in the sub-£50 bracket). If your camera is 4 years old it may be a 1 megapixel or even just shoot at 640 X 480. If you want the latest kit you will have to pay, but it's probably wo...

It's certainly true that the branch network as it existed in the 1960's was not sustainable economically, and easilly forgotten that many of these lines were running trains with hardly any passengers on, especially off-peak. I do wonder though how many of those lines would now be viable again in the...

The Uk branch collection (also from 3dtrainstuff) features night cab views on a variety of steam trains. It certainly adds to the atmosphere when doing a 'wee small hours' freight run using steam. Works particularly well on the default S&C for some reason.

I'm diving into this thread a little late but here goes. I have a GeForce 2 GTS 32MB in one machine and a GeForce MX400 64MB in the other (both 1Ghz/256MB) . I have held off upgrading the graphics card for the simle reason that even if I bought the latest flashiest card, it is unlikely that I would ...

If you have two versions without asking for the Cd and one not, you can get round it by copying the main executable (I think it's called train.exe, but I'm at work so can't check) from the copy that doesn't ask for it to the copy that does and everything will be OK. I have two versions, 1.0 which ne...

If you want to buy a digital camcorder ignore all of the 'webcams with memory cards and batteries' as they will only hold a few minutes of low-res video and they are not really much use at all. I would buy a cheap camcorder that uses the Mini-DV format, I have a JVC I bought in a sale from Argos for...

I believe the speed at which an LCD monitor can reflect changes has increased recently, leading to most current models bering suitable for games and DVD. If you are shopping at the cheap/remaindered/secondhand end of the market you will need to tread carefully though, as not all screens will be suit...
