Tree Fix!

Silly me. I needed to fix the height of the polys. This is much better. I was going to replace the other photo but this shows the difference a good choice of poly-size enables. The Royal Poinciana is now in proper aspect. <IMG width="646" height="524" SRC="http://album.atomic-systems.com/showPic.php...

I am unafraid Peter, and your warnings shall be heeded. I've already learned to minimize (double-click) the LOD manager and not close it. A fix may appear at some time for that. I am now purchasing the 3DS Max5 Bible. My hope is to contribute to this hobby which I find good medicine for retired blok...

Wonderful.

I had no trouble following along, and it's another keeper!

You are a good and sharing individual. Thanks for all your trouble.

WOW!

Pete! After a short nap, (I was up quite early today (0300 local time)) I have returned here to discover your most thoughtful and sharing tutorial! I've snatched it onto my hard drive as something worthwhile. In a bit, my sister arrives to pick me up and entertain me for dinner, but until that happe...

Hmmmm . . . All went well up to the point where I was instructed to "Texture with a transparent material." I thought (with the alpha) my applied material would already be transparent where need be. All went well with your suggestions to that point. My "Material" is an .ace file with an alpha channel...

Thank you Peter!

I'll have a go at it like that.

Your time, trouble, and courtesy to respond is great, and I think I need to extend my membership here on the UK forum.

Trying to make a tree . . .

Preparing the artwork in Photoshop (with alpha) is no problem. I'm stuck in gMax trying to make the three polys. I start with a rectangle, convert to editable mesh, and apply my material, no problem. I just can't seem to select the back face no matter what I do. Maybe I shouldn't be using a rectangl...

Yes, Deckosoft does good! Funny how I, if not others, gravitate toward what we know, what we are familiar with, what we have seen actually "running" the rails. But you know--there's a curious amount of unexplainable steam in my blood for some reason. Maybe it's the haunting sound of that US whistle ...

Editing audio on a computer is easy but the learning curve for non audio folks is fairly steep and it all begins with a sound editing program. The more powerful, the more complex and harder to learn. For many like myself, the problem is not editing the file so much as obtaining a worthwhile file to ...

Yes, I have both run it and looked at it in SoundForge 6.0. There is no leading silence.

Delay is the nature of the MSTS and .sms beast, methinks.

Yes, Horgy. mirth precisely, carrying the "Alice In Wonderland" aspect of MSTS to a curious extreme while practicing my transparency skills.

Now that I like - nice bit of fakery. We could do with some more image manipulation to put forum members into the sim. Although somewhere on this site is a BR Mk.1 coach full of several of us - Ian Morgan took our photos sitting down and put about a dozen of us in there on a 'railtour'. And welcome...

Thanks much for taking time to reply and I'm happy I'm not the only one experiencing that lag. Not a big bother, but thought I'd ask.

Also asked at the same time in the train-sim forum but so far no replies there. If something shows of interest, I'll of course share.
