You are a most wonderful asset to this venue, Stuart. You are an important reason I paid to subscribe to UK Train-sim, and your visits to Trainsim (US) are always appreciated. You are free with your knowledge and discoveries, and it is inspiring. Thank you. It occurs to me, the MSTS .sms file is a c...

I hope no one took offense when I said: In GoldWave, Effects>Volume>Maximize. Watch the waveform, and experiment. Somewhere between flat-out distortion and "no change" is where the audio truth resides. Use headphones. Don't be *too* critical. If the terms "dynamic" and "compression" are understood, ...

In GoldWave, Effects>Volume>Maximize.

Watch the waveform, and experiment. Somewhere between flat-out distortion and "no change" is where the audio truth resides. Use headphones. Don't be *too* critical. And above all,

Have Fun!

Thank you Stuart, my friend. It is a shame, (although not surprising?) that the sim doesn't provide any form of amplification. That said even with all volume levels maxed out a .wav played in-sim does seem quieter than when played in windows or a .wav editor. Agreed as it would seem. Of course the m...

Unravelling the .sms: Postulations

Inspired by Ralf Hagen's good work, my career experience in sound, and a desire to manipulate the mixing of sounds of my own design within MSTS, I set out to unravel some puzzlements. In Mr. Hagen's good published work, he teaches: Volume: The Volume-Value supposedly goes from 0 to 1 however people ...

Well, gmax is a tough cookie for those new to 3D, but it's essentially 3DSMax 5 minus rendering and some other very advanced things. Basically, any tutorial for 3DSMax will begin to shed light on the program and there are many nice tutorials floating around. A search of Google using "gmax tutorials"...

The parent of gMax is 3DS Max, a US$3,400 program. gMax has most ot the 3DsMax functionality. Compared to gMax, and I am very sorry, 3DCanvas and Train Sim Modeler are, well, as MS Paint is to Photoshop. Learn gMax and see what a *real* 3D design program can do. Why did Discreet release gMax? I've n...

Another one

I too have recently bought the UTC and it should be here next week.

I have only one real concern, and that's how dark all the Trainz screenshots look. Things were not made better by a user quip to the effect "how hard is it to turn up the brightness?

Wrong answer.

Mr. Booth is an honorable helpmate for us.

Nevertheless, your post begs the question, what is it you're about doing?

Michael Vone's book. It will set you free and I gladly paid the US$20 to encourage the likes of him to do more. And if others follow, I'll gladly contribute to them too, whether via donation or "commercial" hawking. Michael's book is great. Next time I hope he self-publishes so he can keep all the m...

Always good to save before doing the TrainSim-specific plug-in. Also, there's a pretty decent help document that shipped with the gamepack. Mapping is tricky. What is happening to you may not be a gMax problem at all but rather something amiss in the cockpit. Unfortunately I am not qualified to unta...

Many have complained the MSTS Gamepack LOD and Shape File creator crashes. Mine used to but doesn't any more. I do these things: 1. I don't try to overwrite an existing .s file. I use another name. 2. I always type the ".s" extension myself. 3. Instead of using the "X" to close the function, I first...

At http://www.tcwo.com. the Live! is available for $US 32.00.

Without going overboard, I should think the Audigy of some flavor should work for you in the MSTS realm for cheap.

Need help?

e-mail me for my phone number. ;-)

Get anything but a SoundBlaster Live!

Creative has a terrible reputation for drivers.

Audigy works although there are better cards to be had.
