Re: Flying Scotsman
Admittedly the policy would cost more in the short term, but I can see it costing less in the long term as many of the NRM's main line locos must be nearing a point, like Flying Scotsman, where they will need outrageous sums to bring them back on the main line. Having a rotation would mean more loc...

Re: Flying Scotsman
I can see that the misinformed public seem to regard this loco as iconic because they can't distinguish between the loco and the named train ! I agree that that was probably the case before 1963. But I think Alan Pegler had a flair for publicity, and his main line agreement allowed him to take Scot...

Re: Flying Scotsman
In fairness to them, the prices of raw materials have been rising since they started the overhaul; doubtless this is partly to blame.

Re: Flying Scotsman
I know many enthusiasts are sick to their back teeth of Flying Scotsman , but I think there are good reasons why she deserves to run again: 1. As one of Britain's best known steam locos, she gets publicity for the preservation movement and the NRM wherever she goes, and this can only be a good thing...

Re: Chiltern Route
That's very good to know. I rather thought that a steam era terminus would need the oomph of big pneumatic buffers. Have you seen the originals and, if so, what colour are they? I modelled mine after those at Paddington. Well, they are red now so I assume they were red then! I can't find a decent p...

Re: Chiltern Route
Wow! This route is looking really good 8) And, even with the texture problems, it's fantastic to see Marylebone in MSTS! Incidentally, Marylebone did have pneumatic buffers, and I know at least three of them still survive: two are at Leicester North on the preserved Great Central and one is in the m...
