The trouble seems to be that unused stock doesn't always seem to be available even in Maintenance Mode

All Stock and all Consists always appear in the list editors for Maintenance Mode Stock and Maintenance Mode Consists (so that you can choose items to add them to the lists)

You don't need to unstore everything. You just need to unstore the Consist that you want to use in your editing session. You can do this by adding the Consist to the Maintenance Mode Consist list for the route in question and then Preparing the Route, or you can use Immediate Unstore. AE doesn't get...
