I don't think it's WC anymore - though I'm probably wrong!

Anyone remember all those shenanigans a few years ago when Ed Burkhardt resigned (was pushed)?

I totally agree with everything you say; I as much as anyone would very much like to see this line built (though I feel it should take second place to a HSL to Manchester/Leeds). But unfortunately the simple fact is that at this moment, there is neither the will nor the available money to build such...

It may be complicated, but I don't think many people are complaining because after a lot of faffing about in the 90s, this system has got us a CTRL delivered on time and on budget.

Just like, err, the WCRM... 8)

If I remember correctly, it was First's proposal for a 200mph new HSL between Paddington and Bristol, with a couple of Parkway stations. South West stations (Devon and Cornwall) would benefit by their trains being routed over the HSL between Padd and Bristol, together with the upgrade of the line be...

No, they actually are 110mph only (check the TOPS info panel on the vehicle itself if you want). I wouldn't know what upgrades and modifications would be required for 125mph running - but I expect they would be significant, as they were only ever designed for the purpose of working with classes 86(1...

I read that EWS have purchased some Mk3 sleeper coaches in order to convert to high speed parcels use (not Royalmail, other companies).... Perhaps they'll be after some DVT's or DBSO's? I wouldn't imagine so, to be honest. They have bought the ex-sleepers specifically for the 125mph capacity (they ...

As regards the DVT/DBSO situation, I think we can be fairly sure that as they are an integral part of the trainsets, they will go where their sets go, as in if the WC sets go to Anglia, the DVTs will go with them. I'm not sure if there is a platform length issue on the Anglian main line - I don't be...

That all seems very sensible; I might just add one or two things? - Anglia should not take all the WC Mk3 sets - I don't know how many there are actually and how many they need. It is simply crying out for some of these sets to be used on XC services (esp. to the South West in summer) with a 67 (jus...

I've only seen 90050 recently...the only one I went behind twice. I think 90042 was also used, both are in Freightliner livery and are by no means the obvious replacement for the 86's.. Damn right. Repeat after me: West Coast 87s and 90s, West Coast 87s and 90s, West Coast 87s and 90s, West Coast 8...

Transpennine DMUs - builder announced. (Yes you guessed it.)

As just about everybody knew was going to be the case, Siemens has been announced as the winning bidder for new 100mph DMUs for the new (First/Keolis) Transpennine franchise, with the diesel variant of the Desiro. Details here A couple of notes:- -- Doors at 1/3 and 2/3. Much better than 158s for th...

But if third world countries like south korea can invest in trains like TGV for example then surely that should not be a problem for Britain  . But i thought the TGV trains were the same price as the eurostars themselves if not cheaper 8) 8). TGV is a concept , not just a train. The TGV...

91s are very reliable nowadays - in the last few years they have had just about a TOTAL refit (and a hearty congratulations to GNER for going right to the heart of the issue of reliability on the ECML), and are now all classified 91/1. Before that...! They were only ever designed for working Mk4+DVT...

I would not describe the 67s as worthless! They have given the Aberdeen and Inverness sleepers 100% reliability and a massive increase in punctuality - the EWS 47s used to give about a 50/50 chance of reaching their destination. Similarly almost alone they made the Royal Mail the most punctual servi...
