There's generally an EWS loco or two hanging around somewhere on the Brighton main line (Three Bridges basically, but can be found elsewhere) that could always be comandeered (in place on a dedicated SC Thunderbird).

Seems a bit daft that the power rail doesn't go all the way into the bay - or do they only expect 4 car units in there? They don't expect ANY units to go in there - it is not actually a 'platform'. Redhill only has three platforms and this post office bay. I don't know when it ceased use - but I've...

Unfortunately heritage cannot take the place of pure business sense. If freight is to survive (and hopefully prosper) the latter must take absolute priority. Re weedkillers: 08s have a 15mph limit. That's why. I can understand 47s being put into storage - they are old and very unreliable now, and EW...

Last day of domestic Eurostars in Kent - Saturday 27th

Hello, This Saturday is the last day of Eurostar operations on the domestic Kent main lines. I want to be there to record this event... but where? The majority of Eurostars use the Sevenoaks - Tonbridge - Ashford main line. But according to Connex, this line has engineering on Saturday. Can anyone t...

It is definitely the case that off-lease stock is often stored at MOD bases - I remember a few years back seeing a lot of Mk 2 coaches being held on the Longtown Military Railway. I know that there is another, larger site, which has been openly mentioned in the railway press but can't remember the ...

New stock for domestic services, IMO, won't be ready until 2010 at the earliest. But a domestic CTRL service will probably start in 2008 or possibly 2007 using Regional Eurostars. GNER are already aware and preparing to end their contract for them when they get a windfall of HSTs when Project Rio fi...

Can someone please confirm when passenger trains change over from domestic Kent lines to CTRL? I'm sure it's Saturday/Sunday at the end of September (ie the timetable change) but the BBC appear to think otherwise. I want to go out to somewhere between Tonbridge and Ashford and film the E*s on their ...

The most ludicrous thing of all is that with most of Silverlink County's customers taking to the roads instead, a number of injuries, possibly a death or two, will almost certainly have been caused by today's decision! I'm sure their families will really thank the HSE for their 'sensible' (as ever) ...

The Silverlink one? Only between Rugby and Birmingham, with an improved service south thereof.
