A little bit more than that, I'm afraid - when it is finished, it will almost certainly have cost well over £10,000,000,000!!

So which train were the traction motors from? The 4-REPs . Typical Southern style - total upgrade of the LSWR line, complete with brand new stock - they just couldn't resist 'recycling' something! Having said that, the 442s are IMO the best multiple unit ever built - in addition to comfort etc, I'v...

EWS 'lightning flash'! (kidding!) Really, I'm very tempted to say large logo but I think it has got to be a full HST set in pristine IC swallow livery. Nearly every single post-privatisation livery has been hideous - why is this the case? Surely in this age of PR and image manufaturing they could ha...

True, but Company A (Network Rail) makes no profit and has no shareholders to be held accountable to, only their members (SRA, ATOC etc). Hence money will be saved because no cash at all will be heading into private pockets.

This wasn't actually the farewell tour, just a loco-hauled tour of Southern branch lines (I was on board). The 73s' farewell tour is on 30 December, Waterloo - Salisbury - Southampton - Weymouth - Waterloo, IIRC, with both of EWS's remaining locos.

Re: Jarvis

Well, on the news tonight: Jarvis are alleged to have been negligent in their work on the ECML and to have falsified records of their work. I think you mean WCML - this is this summer's Stoke blockade, on which Jarvis was a contractor. They are saying that they are going to cease railway work. What...

You are indeed right - good luck with the skive, but don't leave it too long - EWS are wanting to switch the S&C diagram to 67 haulage, my guess being in the first few months of next year.

The 1200 Cardiff - Brighton doesn't exist now according to my copy of the winter NRT - am I correct in assuming the 31s are now working the 1252 Temple Meads - Brighton and then the 1700 to Cardiff? Fridays only as before, I assume. I went for this train a few months ago now - and what came out of N...

I also thought the idea they gained them in the first palce was because they were longer, with higher capacity, better facilities, and smoother ride. Which is why they use the few they have on their premiere service. The reason GNER leased them is because GNER is, and has been for five years now, d...

There was an absoulute classic - again from Japan I believe - a few years ago. A paperclip was dropped in a keyboard in a signalling centre, rendering two keys inoperative. Trains were delayed for several hours... :)

Did you get a look at the interior? To what extent have the vehicles been refurbished? The Mk2s are ex-Virgin, I belive. Are they ones fitted with IC70 seats? (in which case, I would expect a new seat cover is the best to be expected - which is fine by me, IMO the IC70s are the best designed seat ev...
