It seems that its more of a problem maker than a problem fix.

Has anyone worked out how we can simulate a locomotive being started or shutdown?

this is true, but i have done it,

a) for people who dont know how to

and

b) for people who cant be bothered

Air brakes are the most effective of all, it is possible to have a loco dual braked but i am not sure of the effect if you have a mixed rake of stock.
