2027 London - Hull is due to operate normally It didn't. According to rail staff at KGX, HT were trying to couple the units due to form the 1850 and 2027 departures "outside the station". No idea what happened, but I never saw any Pioneers and all Hull Trains services were just cancelled with all p...

Fares database online!
The full fares database is now online at http://www.atoctravelagents.org (click the 'Avantix Fares NFM95 Win98' link - don't worry, it works on XP). This is the stuff that, until now, ATOC did not want us to see. It's now possible to instantly get a fare for any ticket and it will tell you the restr...

about 105/106 at a guess allowing for speed limits and ambers etc There are no ambers. Yellows are possible, but I believe the only yellow signals given to the train were on the approach to Euston! It is a southbound record though, I believe. Also, the APT run was allowed to exceed the speed limits...

Re: There's some good value train fares out there.......
that's a great bonus too. Is it? :o I'd say so. I know people will say "it's only a 90" but we can't be picky these days. Hopefully their Mk3s are up to scratch, because I hear the Mk2s are fairly poor... although they've probably all been withdrawn now. John The Mk2s were long overdue a refurb, an...

End of August collection (Mostly ECML)
Now that I've got a new camera, I've tried to get away from stations where possible and get a wider variety of photos, and not "same platform" shots. Here's a selection taken at the end of August. http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yxna29&outx=800&quality=100&noresize=1 On 19 August, the 18:40 GNER HST ...

I can't imagine GC running a bus (and where would you run it from? There are several park & ride sites for starters...), but maybe they could do a deal with First to allow Grand Central priced tickets to be used on First buses? Or simply offer PlusBus for free with a GC ticket. That way the cost to ...

GNER has enough on its plate tackling a £1.2billion subsidy???? Originally, £1.5bn. Now (according to the RAIL magazine August 16 - 29) it is a massive £1.9bn I doubt it will of gone up, my latest copy of Modern Railways has it at £1.3billion.. Depends on what method you use to measure it. Oh, ...

It varied! DVTs were added in the 1980s (someone else can be more precise!) for all WCML trains out of Euston - this did not apply to CrossCountry though. The formations did vary a lot, but the theory was to keep 86s with Mk2s, as both were limited to 100mph (it'd be daft to put a 90 or 87 with Mk2s...

It's true that they have no imagination whatsoever. If we still had Arriva, I think we'd still have a proper loco hauled service over the S&C. I agree. Although, are Northern allowed to have any imagination? This was one of the first of the new-style botched DfT (Department for Fuzzy Thinking) fran...

I spent last summer working for Northern getting passenger data. The main gripe I got was that there was no money for new units as the company was being run as cheap as possible. Northern could be a good company with decent services, if it put some cash into new units. One further point, some of th...

Re: Getting A New Camera, But Would Like Some Advice
Also, for any camera techie, is this shutter speed good enough to get sharp images of trains on the mainline ( up to 90mph ): automatic: 1/8-1/1700 sec. 1/8 no way. 1/1700 yes - but what other settings are needed in combination with such a fast shutter speed and get the correct exposure? That will ...

Would you expect a shop to wait open for you past 5.30 if thats when it closed. Hardly the same thing. The customer has already paid for the product (the journey) and the TOCs (all of them - not just one) are legally bound to fulfil that contract. I just about managed to then get the last train of ...
