Hi again, Re scaling up from truescale - do I multiply by 2 or is that too obvious? Shouldn't I multiply by 2.35 to go from 2 ft to 4 ft 8.5 inches? Doing x2 makes Pixie just that little bit too narrow on the rails but x2.35 makes it look too big to me. Your advice would be appreciated. Just another...

Hi, I have just got around to resizing my Wren to x2 using RR and SFM. Works a treat and a great model. Just one small thing about the valve gear (and I''m not asking for a modification - just giving a bit of info for anyone going to model Hackworth gear). The straight slide at the top of the radius...

Hi Barden, I have only just come across this thread as I have no knowledge/expertise and no intention of building a route! However I do live in Lanchester (a southern newcomer of 5 years residence and no intention of ever returning!) and regularly walk and cycle on the Browney Valley and other nearb...

Hi Ian, I have tried the single port regulator on both the A4 and the FR Alco and they both work much better with it. You have made a major advance, a touch of genius, I think. I used just two lines in the eng file. Type = single port and exponent = 0.7. As you say, the locomotives seem more respons...

Apologies for the multiple posts. Everything 'hung up' on the submit command. I didn't press it again - honest! Martin G.

Sounds for FR Alco

Hi Everyone, I have been playing with the recordings from 'SteamSounds' and using the resulting .wav files with Stuart Williamson's '2-Cyl-Generic' .sms files to try to get a reasonable representation of the Alco. Having zero knowledge of sound files when I started, it's been a bit of a steep learni...

Hi Captain, Yes, thats what I have done. The main crow is now on the 'B' button and the 'pop-pop' is on the space bar. Much more satisfactory. Thanks for all your help. As an aside, please see another query in the 'Sounds' forum (I am just about to type it so wait half an hour or so - thanks.) Marti...

Hi guys, Thanks for all the info. Sorry I didn't reply sooner but the forums didn't let me for a while! I have done something like the mods you suggest, Captain, and it works a treat - nearly. The only real problem is that the B button has turned out to be a 'press once for on, press a second time f...

Two whistles on one loco?

Hi guys, I know I have seen a post about this somewhere but I'm blowed if I can find it! There is a way to get a second whistle on to a loco by using the 'B' button for the second whistle (instead of for a bell). Can anyone tell me what mods I have to make to the .eng and/or .sms files? The Alco on ...

Hi Captain. I'm always afraid of messing up the animation (and sounds) if I change the wheel radius/diameter so I tend to leave it as the model designer left it and adjust the steam use rate on the cylinder stroke and cylinder volume numbers. Don't you get 'wheel skidding' effects if you alter the w...

Hi

Hey, I've just noticed that the Baldwin 'Columbia' is a 'Vauclain' compound - four cylinders on two cranks - an arrangement much used by Baldwins in the early 20th Century. Did they really make such a 15'' gauge device? Getting the .eng file correct is going to be a beggar!
