Sorry to be another pedant, but a two cylinder (simple) loco has four chuffs per rev, not two.

Hi all, Just an observation on Firehole doors, tunnels and blowbacks. I have installed MSTS on a number of computers, both from an original version and a recent 'explosiv' version and on every set up I do not get a blowback in a tunnel when I open the doors to recommence firing provided I close the ...

Apologies for resurrecting such an old thread, but has anyone actually tried to creat these 'slippery sections'? Does it work?

Thanks, Martin G

On my setup (which I havn't used for a long time now!), the 'inverse' looping of the safety valve sounds only happened in you let the boiler pressure get more than about 5psi (I think it was) above the rated boiler pressure. If when the safety valves lifted you kept the pressure below rated boiler p...

Hi Rich,

Yes, you have to be very careful with the friction values.

I'm sure Ian will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the Max Power value works on the Sim as it should (at least, not on steam locos). If I remember correctly, it only seems to affect the coal consumption.

To Ian, I usually factor the cylinder volume rather than the cylinder efficiency so as to keep a feel for the comparison between different models' cylinder efficiency values. To Portbury, I explained myself badly. I wasn't trying to say that the factoring of the cylinder volume was needed because of...

And if the wheel radius that you have to use to get the correct wheel rotation speed along the track is not what the real locomotive should have then you have to factor the cylinder volume by the same proportion to get the steam usage 'correct'. For example, if the model wheel radius has to be, say,...

I noticed the reference above to 'Extended Shape File missing' error messages. I get this with one of my carriages even though the .s and .sd files have the same file name. Any ideas why? Thanks.

Hi Well, RR didn't want to know, so after playing around for 4 hours (hope the wife doesn't read this) I now have the invisible engine working OK. Actually, it doesn't seem to make all that much difference to how the train pulls but I think I can convince myself that it does a bit! Again, thanks for...

Thank you all for your replies.

I will try using RR to uncompress and compress and see if I get the 'pivot point' problem. If I do then I think I might try using an Invisible Engine to tow the 'real' one as a DIT as the model I am using doesn't have a tender.

Reversing the Shape Files

Hi Sorry if this has been discussed in detail before but I have searched the forums for some time without getting a definitve answer. I noticed in the recent thread on the BR Std2 2-6-0 that reversing the shape file was one way of having a loco working in reverse Although it was not stated there, I ...

I am a returnee after about a year! I've had a look but cannot see this marvelous utility (for sorting out the size, bbox, coupler stiffnesses and damping settings) for download. Did nothing come of it in the end?

Thanks Calvert. Once I started looking for a .ref file I realised that the route didn't have one! Then it clicked in what I like to call my mind what that "Make Ref" button in RR does. All sorted now. Thanks again.

Thanks for the info, guys. How do I correct the ref file? I have RR and have tried to find how it might fix this problem but without success!! I might be being a bit thick!
