Re: Tractive Effort Calculation

...... For me to calculate tractive effort would you be able to guide me or show me the correct formula ?..... I'm a bit rusty on the subject now, it's been a while since I played around adjusting loco performance in Train Sim. There are some formulae here that may help: https://mei.org.uk/files/pd...

Re: Tractive Effort Calculation

The gradient heading West out of Swindon towards Bristol over the distance covered in the video is approximately 3/4 mile at 1 in 1320 rising, 1 mile at 1 in 660 falling, 2 miles level then 1 in 660 falling. Essentially level, certainly as far as TS2020, which treats anything less than 1 in 200 as l...

Re: Error #438

Mike,

I allowed the download and checked it with Malwarebytes which gave it the all clear. Your fix has been successful - I no longer get the #438 error when clicking the 'Edit Selected Scenario' button. Thank you!

Re: Error #438

Mike, I've tried downloading the new version from the link and both my Windows 7 desktop and Windows 10 laptop delete the download as it is assessed to have a virus. The Win 7 machine is running Microsoft Security Essentials and the Win 10 laptop uses Microsoft Defender. Defender thinks it contains ...

Re: JT S7+1 train

Uploaded as an attachment, I've tried to do it in sections to make it easier to read, and in Northbound/Southbound order. Let me know if it's too confusing or not! I'm finding it very useful, certainly not confusing, thank you. The information from the German site is also well worth downloading, gi...

Re: Annoying Safety Valves!

The ideal, in realsim terms anyway, would be to have an intelligent automatic fireman who could read the road, know the timetable etc so that the fire could be managed to meet the requirement for steam as the experienced hands used to do. Alternatively simulate a less experienced man who needed tips...

Re: JT S7+1 train

I can't find a photo of the view from the prototype's cab from exactly the same viewpoint as you get in the sim but from what I have seen the 'box' with the TCMS screen etc doesn't overlap the left hand edge of the windscreen as much as it does in the model or possibly doesn't overlap at all. That m...

Re: Annoying Safety Valves!

IIRC the automatic fireman doesn't have control of the dampers so you can close them (shift + M) if you want to reduce the rate of steam production which should reduce the tendency for the safety valves to lift. You can see their state in the F5 display. If you're short of steam open them again (M)....

Re: JT S7+1 train

Just found this on RailUKforums: "The train should be aligned with the green section of the chevron marker visible through the front cab window aligned with the edge of the windscreen. The tolerance is just 0.7m to get an accurate stop." The rest of the post (https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/lon...

Thanks. That's what I was thinking but if it's true why would JT make it more complicated?

Re: JT S7+1 train

I'm trying to find a way of stopping in the correct place without having to jump across to the other side of the cab to view the marker on the driver's side as recommended in the manual. Can anyone tell me how it's done in reality?

Is it a splitting distant? The relevant section on this site refers to Airport Junction as an example: https://www.davros.org/rail/signalling/ ... tions.html
