bogies
John, I've used bogies, hidden with transnorm, with just 2 vertical sides - no problems. Try a re-assemble from parts - hopefully you've stored the parts you've built - TSM seems to get some things in the wrong order or not quite as it wants - should work. Save it under a different version name & tr...

piston rods
fd, No! All steam locos are double acting - they have live steam on both sides of the piston. If the piston rod came through the cover it meant another set of packing glands. If you look at the Great Central Atlantics, for example, this is clearly visible. This wasn't normal & on some classes of loc...

John, Nice model of a nasty, nasty prototype. I remember when they had the nerve to introduce them at Waterloo, Ugh! Should be exactly the same as a coach. Set the animation to 9, set 'main' to 'None', set everything else to 'main', bogie1 & 2 set to 'main', wheels11 & 12 set to 'bogie1', wheels21 &...

non-animation
John, It sounds as though the 'project properties' page isn't filled out properly. Don't forget the TSM how-to refers to version 1; 1.1 is totally different. It's easiest to set the animation to 9 for bogie sized wheels, I use 17 for larger driving wheels - 16 point animation. If it's not turning at...

Don't bother - the version you downloaded is newer than the one on fs2002. Sadly the tutorials are not up to much. Also the trainsim gadget won't work with the fs2002 version.
Take a look at the sample E6!

Decapod, Yes please to the scans - I imagine your oddity is one of the Webb 2-2-2-0 compounds - I've forgotten the Class name, 'Jeannie Deans' was amongst them - the rest had magnificent names from Greek Mythology. looking through my ABC book again:- Standard 9F 39,670lbs Merchant Navy 33,495lbs Lor...

te
Decapod, I was looking through one of the old ABC books, Southern Region of course, & saw their calculation, which is pretty well the same:- TE = d2 x s x p x 85 ----------------- w x 100 that's d squared x stroke x pressure x 85% over wheel diameter in inches. All mutiplied by 1.5 for a three cylin...

Martin, They're transparencies. I thought I'd see where you can use them on this model. They don't look too bad - if I think I can squeeze in more polys I might try using tubes. You only really notice side on when neither front nor rear face is visible. A quick count suggests that the poly count wou...

Martin, If only! I sometimes wish I were one of those single-minded people who finished one thing before rushing off on all manner of tangents - might even get the open wagons done. BTW there's a framed goods van half done as well. BTW I've just got the inside faces of the coal rails to work - by sp...

As promised I've taken a shot of the progress so far:- http://www.rosbo77.freeserve.co.uk/ebay/photos/0415_4.jpg 488 has the longer side tanks & no coalrails. BTW I can't get the inner faces of the rails to show transparent - don't know why! The vans behind are a 24ft luggage van, 24ft fruit van, re...

IOM Railway
Interesting to see other people interested. I've gathered a bit of information but track plans are hard to find. All of the locos were drawn in one of the model railway mags. I was thinking of it as a first route - I'd be happy to come in on a group project. I started a loco in TSM - if anyone would...

fg, Something completely odd going on here. Wheels11 - 33 are for bogie wheels which MSTS animates. This isn't visible in TSM. If you have driving wheels they must be named Wheel01 - 04 & animated manually. The rotation can be loaded from an existing wheel or the wheel moved & recorded - as you've d...

Mike,
I've literally just walked in through the door - I had to bring the hard disk back with me in order to retrieve the files.
I'll post some shots when I'm unpacked.

There's one in the shed at the moment. I couldn't resist the temptation to work on the computer instead of on the roof when I was away - came back with some more half completed stock & ran out of time for the roof repairs. There's a surprising variation in the Adams' locos, short & long tanks, 3' & ...

Trackdancer, This is beginning to get interesting - and confusing. I suspect we paint our textures this way is because we've all taken our lead from the default textures. I see your point about separate window panes though this would surely almost double the polygon count of a coach. Would TSM then ...
