Nick, I'm afraid all you'll get from not using tutorials is frustration. You won't make head or tail of Gmax without guidance; a tutorial is merely someone's tale of their disasters & how they solved them. You'll find the steam4me site to be the best for MSTS tutorials; it will also pay to find car ...

Paul, I can't really tell from your post whether you've got the tender to work. If you have no bogies to worry about you can use more or less any sequence of wheels11, 12, 13, 21, 22, 23 but THEY MUST BE IN SEQUENCE or they'll move incorrectly relative to the 'main' axis. The best site for for tutor...

Longbow,

Is that a nod to me? I haven't forgotten you - I've been up to my ears for weeks trying to sort other problems.

Mike, Many builders have used more than 6,700 polys. Is your figure raw polys or converted polys? Look in the project properties panel, take the higher figure. I don't think there's a top limit, MSTS just runs slower. MSTS sometimes baulks at the number or complexity of parts or the heirarchy. There...

The LSWR's moved a bit!! I'd believe LNWR though. The line runs past my house, Top Line, the LNWR/GWR joint line which had an end-on junction at Talywain. The Bottom Line was the GWR route to Blaenavon. The North Gwent Group built Blaenavon High Level some years ago, it was written up in the model r...

Try downloading version 1.1 ( which you need to do anyway - version 1 is suspect ) try your registration key with that.

Are you mailing abacus US or UK?

Darwin, Go to steam4me site & look at my loco & coach tutorials - all covered. MSTS, TSM & SFM all use slightly different rail heights & datums - what looks best on your system? TSM rail reference part is asymetrical & should be redrawn. Don't forget, other people may have used the wrong measurement...

Graham,

Absolutely - my annoyance is that Abacus have the presumption to control intellectual property. It's like Microsoft charging every author for every article written with Word.

Graham, TSM is certainly capable of excellent results. If you buy it - install it then immediately, from the Abacus site, find & download version 1.1. Version 1, the box version, is full of bugs. Go to the steam4me site tutorials page, Yuri has collected most tuts for TSM, there is another in Spanis...

I'll agree with Lucazone; start with something simple - make it work. The dodge with Gmax is finding how to use basic tools & ignore the bangs & whistles. Look back through the Gmax forum to find leads to flightsim & carsim tutorials. Don't restrict yourself to Gmax tuts, much of TSM can be applied....

Al, Shape Viewer is far more accomodating than MSTS. Sounds like a texture problem; In SV 'Edit', 'Textures'. You'll see a list of the texture files used. In the MSTS file make sure that all texture files are there, including blank.ace if it's needed. MSTS is fussy about texture file names. Spoked w...

Darwin, Found on another forum:- http://perso.club-internet.fr/lemog/# Click on 3dtextures on the left menu - fairly slow site for a sluggish computer. All manner of textures, all illustrated in use; certainly the best source I've seen. Don't expect too many variants of brickwork - I've yet to see F...

Tim, MSTS only uses 256 colours, I think - it's certainly of poor quality. We've all suffered from this; MSTS finds colour gradients which don't exist elsewhere. Shape View has the option of showing low quality (MSTS quality) graphics. It's a pain - there's no way you can fight it. See if you can fi...

Slight jutters are just one of those things. It's almost certain that, as you go from one track module to another, information has to be loaded. The monitor shouldn't freeze, though. Press shift-z to see the frame rate. If it worries you try turning the graphics settings down a bit; lowering visibil...

Not odd, If I remember they were end loaded from the platform - you drove straight through the transporters to your slot. It's possible that railway staff drove them on & off. At the destination end I'd imagine the transporters were uncoupled & backed to a platform so that the cars would be driven f...
