Re: Dreadnought and Ark Royal
not quite sure if they are true Try http://www.greatwestern.org.uk Scroll down to "GWR named locomotive database", here you will be able to find what you are looking for. Couldn't find Ark Royal but Dreadnought is listed! :D regards Matthew There was indeed a real Dreadnought loco. But this was com...

Yup It is still in the works. But not much progress at the moment. I am somewhat wrapped up in building physical models for a railway layout. I will get back to it though it is a loco I want to finish.davidaward wrote:Robin Howell is making a 4MT 4-6-0, but I ain't seen any progress pics for a while

When was 1st batch of GWR 45xx (4575 type) built
Hi folks,
Does anyone know when the first batch of GWR 4575 in the 45xx/55xx series were first built? I know the batches of 45xx/55xx range from 1906 - 1929 but somewhere in between they switched from straight top tanks to the familiar larger capacity slopping tanks from loco 4575 onwards.

If it was just the Y axis in TSM then wheels would be eliptical. I can't imagine TSM would be producing incorrectly sized s files. If TSM was at fault, all models produced using TSM would be faulty, and I think that would be very noticeable. I'm not saying anyone is knowingly making models at the w...

Recently someone e-mailed me to ask if the different packages produced models of differing sizes. I do find it rather hard to believe. With all 3 packages, the output is an S file which uses metres as the units, there is no scaling involved and should correspond 1:1 with the real thing. If TSM was ...

Re: World Class Model locomotives 2
Well said. but who is going to decide what are the best UK models? A frought and dodgy exercise at best likely to cause more problems and upsets than prove any point. I think there are several peoples UK models that are at least as good as the models you have shown if not better. However you are en...

Re: World Class Model locomotives 2
I really don't think it's that the models are less detailed, it that the UK prototypes have far less detail on the outside. Have a look at my Australian D50 on the steam4me site (and the C35 when it comes out soon) - they are built using the same techniques as the UK locos, but have lots more exter...

Britain doesn't celebrate Trevithick at all, and few of us have even heard of him. According to the usual polls George Stephenson invented the railway on the Liverpool and Manchester line in about 1829. His loco was called the Rocket. Or it might have been Flying Scotsman. That's about the extent o...

This is what the man himself had to say about his lack of fame and money "I have been branded with folly and madness for attempting what the world calls impossibilities, and even from the great engineer, the late Mr. James Watt, who said to an eminent scientific character still living, that I deserv...

Fantastic. 200 years of rail traction and not a peep (sorry bad pun). The importance of this invention shouldn't be underestimated however because Trevithick's loco made a breakthrough - it was the first type of land transport not to need a horse and probably led not only to the railway age but eve...

I have experienced the same problem with one of my models in the past. Having looked at Robin's S file, I have a theory that it is down to the ordering of the animations in the last section of the S file. (which is dependant on when the group was added to the model in the 3DC file) The piston occur...
