Yes, the FOV is really wide after the mod, but you can zoom in one notch with the mouse wheel. The resulting FOV is still wider than the default.
Downside is that you need to zoom in each time you change view/position.

...and when the "engine.ini" has been modified, it's better to set launch options only as "-ENGINEINI=engine.ini" so that the game launch will not overwrite your modifications.
