Re: A Thorny Matter: Barstow to San Bernardino Route

I've just played this scenario a couple of times with no problems... for me it's worked fine heading to Victorville with the start loco on the rear and the helper on the front (Victorville end). There are some adverse signals, but they're only speed checks for the crossover after the bridge at Frost...

Re: Ideas For a New GPU

The CPU only ever seems to use about one and a half cores, so about 38% is 'maxed' if yours is a quad-core.

Re: Ideas For a New GPU

As above re. CPU vs GPU. Try to find a monitor program that shows a graph of your GPU usage - if it's not sitting at 100% on your current settings, there's little point in upgrading it before the CPU.

Re-installing patches after verify

Just an idea I've had, in case it helps others - or in case other people have a better idea. To re-apply patches and modifications that get wiped with a Verify, I'm now trying a batch file. I've unpacked all the files that need to be copied across into a folder called RWPatches, and in the same fold...

Re: Railworks core updates!

Anyone noticed an issue with factory/house smoke emitters showing through solid cab walls, also looking a bit like the old MSTS back to front forest in external view? Just encountered this on Newcastle to York driving the Class 56 (the official DLC, so I presume okay to mention). I'll try and put a...

Re: Railworks core updates!

I've read a few posts about particle plumes not being visible with 10.9a, but I've had the opposite problem. I've noticed recently that plumes of smoke are visible through everything - windows, walls, trees, embankments. I've seen this twice now, although I think both have been with non-core locos (...

Re: Individual Challenge: Gala Glory

Hi Seb, Just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed that, despite not being that into kettles. The train waiting at Templecombe was a bit of a surprise, but makes more sense now in light of your opening paragraph at the top. ;-) Had the same issue with coupling to the 7F, but I moved off anyway and...

Re: Individual Challenge - Surprise entry.

Hi Andy,

Just wanted to say - belatedly, as I've only just got round to playing it - that despite all the troubles above, I really enjoyed "Off to the Castle". Yes, the timings warranted a "hard", but it made it a good challenge to drive, and it was fun watching out for the various AI activities.

Undocumented(?) control - useful for kettles!

I've just discovered that the mouse wheel allows you to zoom in head-out (Shift+2) view (much like up/down cursor in cab view)! Not sure why, as it doesn't zoom in any other view apart from map - but it now means I can spot signals rather more easily when driving steam locos. Just thought I'd share ...

Re: Railworks core updates!

Having just been playing with the SMAA injector mentioned above, unfortunately I can confirm that setting the in-game to No AA reduces framerate by a couple of fps (18->16 using the Autumn Leaves test) so is not a preferred option!

Definitely CPU-limited - the GPU gets no higher than about 90%.

Re: Railworks core updates!

I'm not letting it update at the moment. Has the problems with shadows in Legacy mode been fixed? Does the control handle in the 166 correspond to the marked notches, and does it still still have the problem of going to full brake or full power when trying to move notch? Don't know about the Legacy...

Re: Settings for upgraded Railworks

AMD Phenom II x6 1045T processor ASUS M4A78 PRO AMD 780G Socket motherboard with Radeon 3200 HD graphics. Will this run TSX suitably well (not worried about sparkling performance!). At a rough estimate: adequate processor, but look to Ebay a graphics card (~£50-100?) for it. The 3200 appears pretty...

Re: Steam Achievement has disappeared

Hmm. I've reported it to RSC, and eventually got a reply containing this: Thank you for contacting the Railsimulator.com customer support team regarding the use of the Steam client with Railworks 3: Train Simulator 2012. Your enquiry has been logged with a member of our dedicated customer support te...

Re: Steam Achievement has disappeared

Same here. I'm showing 4th in "Off The Cotswold Line" but apparently I don't have the achievement.

Should I report this to support@rsc? Or is it a Steam problem?

Re: New computer specs? (again)

I have a dual-core CPU, and RW3 appears to use about one-and-a-half cores (with the GPU floating along around 90%).
