I got a Velbon tripod from Jessops a few years back (quite a few, actually). It cost about £120, has square-section legs and a rather spiffy fluid head. Have a gander at http://www.jessops.com, product VELDV7000 (approx £80) to get an idea... Not pocket money, but well worth it IMHO - the cheaper ...

Send your postal address and a nice message to the Info Request thing there, including the part number. Normally they're very good with spares - my Scotrail Turbostar was missing a coupler and when I emailed them two spares arrived in the post the next day. If it's not something that's damaged/missi...

I've been 'playing' the Cambrian a lot recently as well, after a long break from train sim. I like Vern's Scottish routes, I like London-Brighton - and others - but the I have to agree that the Cambrian route just has that special something. The signalling is largely accurate, the stations look righ...

I think Hornby are a bit off with their terminology! "The Hornby example has two 37s working 'close coupled' - a sight quite often seen on the UK network." I think they mean two 37s working in multiple, i.e. double-heading a train. From what I gathered, the 58s and 37s they sell in pairs still have ...

As I don't possess TV or VCR, I did email video125 asking if any more existing videos woiuld be transfered to DVD, and they said no; I suggested burning on PC for small runs but they wouldn't hear of it! Now I can see why. I think they've since added a few more DEVs to the DVD range. Leaflets I rec...

Yep - the couplings take a bit of a battering. Good job I strengthened them, the last wagon almost did a somersault when it pulled into the loop at Tulloch (I think) after the long single line from Rannoch. :)

Gary,

Just finished the activities tonight after downloading them at the weekend - well done! Quite a slog up to County March on the return trip, what thrash! :)

FYI, I passed the DMU at Tyndrum Upper.

Thanks again. :D

The Hornby 06 is renowned for its ability to hit Mach 3 on the first controller notch. :D

You may want to try Mainly Trains (http://www.mainlytrains.com). Also, John Turner at 53a Models (http://www.53amodels.co.uk for contact info) is a very nice, helpful bloke with this sort of thing.

If you're feeling brave, you could go for Kadee automatic uncouplers - a near scale-size buckeye coupling originating from American HO. They're not suited to tight 'trainset' radius curves, I should warn. They can be fiddly to mount on older stock, but newer stock from Bachmann, Heljan et al comes w...

Matt, I'm not a massive user of the forums (though I'm a fully paid-up UKTS premium user), but it is an essential feature of the site, and I'm sure many other occasional posters like me would agree. I may not post 100s of messages a day, but do read the forums most days and post when I feel I can he...

Did you download the Northern Line patch for those experiencing graphics problems at http://www.trainsimcentral.co.uk ? Yes - they didn't make any difference. Getting the latest NVidia drivers (rather than whatever MS shoved down the line at me in updates) was the cure. It worked perfectly before t...

Dunno if it'll help, but I started getting white blobs (GEforce card) on the Northern Line v3, especially in the tunnels.

I worked out that it was because I'd installed the new GEforce drivers from Windowsupdate - downloading the latest drivers from nvidia.com fixed the problem.

Just don't darken the tea-room at Fort William station again!!! Dammit... I'll just listen to Hamish and Dougal on Radio 4 at 11:15 tonight then - a different sort of "You'll Have Had Your Tea". Shame that no-one else seems to want to try/comment on this activity. Come on people, you're really miss...
