Re: Realistic Advice for the Betterment of Driving

Single Line Working in the right or wrong direction.
Would any Signallers and Drivers be prepared to chip in on this subject? There are a number of scenarios being put together by Simmers regarding this method of work under TCB and Absolute Block. Hopefully this may help someone?

Re: Realistic Advice for the Betterment of Driving

I would respectfully suggest that this is not the place to discuss what is or isn't better, as far as I understand it this thread was started to give a flavour of driving practice through the years. We should stick to that and behave like the professionals we are/were, otherwise we will end up with...

Re: Realistic Advice for the Betterment of Driving

So please don't tell me how much better the railway is now compared with 1972 when I started. Peter Depends how you define much better. The one big change from the Footplate being a Driver these days has less distractions from other people up front. There are less people to deal with in the day to ...

Re: Realistic Advice for the Betterment of Driving

How times have changed! I work for DB Schenker and to honest they are very strict on propelling / shunting moves. The rules are simple, Job brief prior to any moves, 3 and 5mph, no break in Radio communications. Any loss of communication after 5 seconds the Driver must stop. Our Radios now record al...

Re: Realistic Advice for the Betterment of Driving

Trains being pushed (assisted) from the rear is not everyday practice these days. Frieght Trains that are Top and Tailed have specific instructions and the rear Loco being used to push a Frieght Train is not permitted. The same applies to Passenger Trains with a Loco at each end. There are exception...

Re: Realistic Advice for the Betterment of Driving

The Warning Horn should not be sounded from 23.00 - 07.00. The excepting to this rule being "in case of an Emergency". When to sound the Warning Horn is normally when the Warning Board comes into sight. It's also worth a mention that some crossings warrant an extra blast! Engineering Trains working ...

Re: Class 91 and Class 92 Progress

Out of interest, what's the big deal if they were in the publics hands? Is there a worry that people might read them, then attempt to steal trains? I can't really think of a scenario where having the manual shown above in my possession would cause any damages to anyone..... :-? Maybe so, but that w...

May be, but this type of material remains out of the Eye of the General public. Like all current Loco Manuals and material related to driving it's strictly a no no!

Re: Class 91 and Class 92 Progress

It's a personal issue by EWS to all Drivers on 92s. I also have a full Manual for all modes which I was issued as an Instructor.

Re: Class 86/87 AC Locomotives. Drivers Information

Added 22/02/2014. Finally I have had some time to dig out and clean up an original copy of WCML Route Maps which cover Preston to Mossband. These are original BR Drivers Maps which date back to the 1970s. Please note that the sim Route is a combination of new and old route features so expect some di...

Re: Class 60 Advanced - Just Trains

The Class 60 update certainly improves this Loco . One area being Slow Speed control on down gradients. At the selected speed power drops off and speed will continue to rise if left unchecked. This means adding a light Direct Brake application to hold the speed. Very realistic.

Likewise, I ignore both as they are pointless as far as driving the sim is concerned.

Re: Class 91 and Class 92 Progress

Hopefully the Speed Control system has not been modelled on the current Class 90 packs which do not mimick the real Loco despite being patched! As far as I know, scripting the speed set system as well as the various methods of braking on the 90 was a bit of a nightmare for the Waggonz fellas so I'm...
