Nice Keikyu trains there! Even though they may not appeal to everyones tastes  I sure like them, and they sound very modern. When I visited Japan in 2000, the Sobu line 209-500 series trains made a similar musical note when pulling off. I'm sure other more modern trains did too. The Yamanote l...

'Why do the Japanese rolling stock play melodies?' To be honest, I'm not sure. It may be to try and avoid complaints from people living near the track, making the horns musical makes them enjoyable to listen to? Or it may simply be to just make things a bit more interesting! The Meitetsu Railw...

A strike? as a result of blatant rule breaking?! The union could not fight this case. What next? a driver watches a DVD whilst driving, gets caught, and says its 'safe' and theres a strike as other drivers should be able to watch DVD's.... Its like saying packing your bag whilst going into Pa...

Drivers should not be doing anything else other than their duties, simple as. It may seem irrelevant that a camera is set up, set to record and then left alone, but could easily turn into disaster. The camera could run low on battery, and the driver may try to change it whilst on the move and miss a...

In Japan, enthusiasts are very interested in the noises the newer VVVF (Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) trains make, as they make a similar musical noise like the Taurus loco shown before here. Heres a clip.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXQUmMICPW4 They also have some musical horns! http://w...

Nice livery, but again, I feel we british are very often totally useless at choosing liveries to suit trains. A 395 in the 'Tsubasa' metallic grey livery http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tsubasa.jpg would look stunning, and much more in fitting with the high speed look

I think they look very good, pity about the awful british yellow front, which seems to ruin the speedy lines of anything its slapped onto! Nice to see some quality Japanese stuff finally coming to the UK, i've been much more interested in Japanese railways than modern UK stock for many years now, an...

Nice leaflet there, maybe the wig-wag signal could quote after its little conversation with the traffic light. 'Not even the emergency services are allowed to pass me!' I was intrigued by the timings of the crossing however, 60 seconds for the train to arrive and 60 seconds after? Seems a very long ...

FGW are short of HST sets as some are trapped at Landore due to overrunning resignalling commissioning at Port Talbot - Llanharan, so may explain the great troubles at the moment.

Finnish trains

A friend of mine is from Finland, so just thought I'd take a look at the Finnish railways website, and came across this PDF file detailing the various items of rolling stock they have. I must say I was amazed at the range of items they supply, very disabled friendly, also very pet friendly! The Inte...

I've shown the film to some signal enthusiasts in the US, and one of them has been showing it to the people in the Railroad company he works for (CSX I think) He said thay all thought it was brilliant and much better than the Operation Lifesaver safety films shown over there, which they said were bo...

Good photos there, looks a nice crossing.
Whats this class 31 into a car video mentioned on here? Is it a new NR video in connection with the excellent 'Dont run the risk' campaign?

As a member of the S&T on NR, anything to try and stop stupid people abusing level crossings is a good thing. I have not seen the TV advert yet, but have heard the radio one a couple of times now. The one I have heard says about 'you knowing the lights are flashing', 'you know the train travels at 1...

I like the new livery, quite nice, but some suggestions... I do think they should lose the 'squiggly' bit of the lines behind the cab doors of the power car, and extend the lines around the nose maybe. Some imaginative use of the awful yellow on the nose too, I don't like the way it curves down the ...
