The speed of a train is governed by a number of factors, including power, mass and rolling resistance (friction). There is advice on friction elsewhere on this site and on http://www.train-sim.com. For mass and power, I suggest that you try to find the real values and use them. Of course, you must a...

Peter I currently have the Schwarzwald, Protrain 1 and Albula routes installed. I hope to install Arlberg 2 this weekend (I'm still in the middle of installing things onto my new pc). I have a couple of short passenger runs for Protrain and two long distance trips, but these need updating to use new...

I haven't tried the activity yet, as I've just downloaded it at work, but I have a few comments based on what I've read in the readme. 1. Good point about the reverse points. Even if you've placed them properly, they won't work if you go past too far. (I've mentioned this here for the benefit of oth...

If anyone's going to do an incline, remember that these were mostly double track, with the loaded wagons moving down the incline pulling the empties up. The drum at the top was for braking only. Inclines would certainly give the right feel to the quarries, but I still think you need to have some oth...

I remember that bottom picture from a very old guide book - in the days when locos were green, carriages were red and there was none of this heritage nonsense (only joking!). One comment for the route builder. Don't underestimate the steepness of that drop to Llyn Mair below. It really is a ...

The quarries themselves had extensive railway networks with lines running along the galleries high up in the mountains and cable inclines linking the different levels. If you walk around the main quarrying areas of North Wales, you'll see the remains of old tramways all around. Most of these were wo...

Chris and Mike I've been busy on other things recently, so I've not had a chance to finish the activity as planned. When I eventually upload it, I'll include my modified eng file so that you can see what I've done (and use the activity of course). Chris, for added realism I suggest you have some Bra...

Has anyone else downloaded the "realistic" DB diesel sounds in their various guises from a number of European sites. I think my set came from http://www.thetrain.de and were downloaded a couple of months ago. As usual I did nothing with them for a while, but when I finally installed them I got a sho...

A very sad demonstration of the state of our railways and worse still our infinite capacity to moan without making constructive suggestions. I'm not a great fan of programmes like this, especially coming from the BBC at a time when their service is almost as bad as the TOCs featured. Someone should ...

Oops pressed submit twice  I've just checked the clock and it's fine, so the problem is with the distance. Rob, I assume that this was your route? What corrections did you apply to the distances when setting out the track? Remember that the real world is round and the msts world is flat (I thi...

There is a problem with the clock that shows up from time to time, where the time shown on the clock and that given for station arrivals don't match. Having said that, I've written a few activities based on real timetables and everything has worked fine. This probably means that I was driving at the...

Simon, I sympathise. I was about to upload my latest southern activity for the ecml and, guess what, it has a signal that changes from green to red. A few of them actually, but strangely one of them doesn't misbehave all the time, so I didn't find it until the last test. All is not lost, in the AE s...
