Re: Trains that stop at Barnsley in Real life

You won't see one of those at Barnsley - the class 333 runs off overhead wires; and Barnsley isn't electrified (and its a long coast from Leeds!).

Re: Scottish East Coast Main Line from Just Trains

Indeed, I can't help but feel JT would have been better off offering nothing - they would still get pre-orders and the usual sales but without taking a £5 hit on a number of sales in April; plus without people moaning because a special offer isn't deemed special enough.

Re: New Route Announcement from RSC: Settle to Carlisle

I'd concur with ending the route at Hellifield or Skipton; ending at Settle always seemed a massive anticlimax in MSTS and it never sat comfortably in scenarios (non-stop express service, but you must stop at Settle for a crew-change or variations of!). At least somewhere an express train could fit ...

Re: New Route Announcement from RSC: Settle to Carlisle

Looking outside the boundaries of UKTS, though, the S&C is probably one of the best known and iconic rail routes in the UK. It's all well and good suggesting somewhere unique is found, but that line has to have broad appeal and for RS, it must also make commercial sense.

Not in Manchester.

In fact, at my garage we have almost 180 buses. Only 5 are single deck!

Re: The Tube BBC 2 Monday 20-02-2012 TV heads up................

Definitely enjoyable, and I've spoken to a few who have no interest in railways at all that watched it as well. One thing we all commented on (and it was mentioned twice at least by staff) is the very self-centred attitude of a lot of the travellers who weren't concerned about anyone or anything but...

Re: Random jottings

Some of our older buses have the stop button wired to a klaxon (similar to a fire alarm). At least the driver is kept alert! :-?

Re: Random jottings

Not something our buses do! Unless it's some sort of radio connection; our radios do two-tones to signify the beginning and end of a transmission. Other than that it has single tone beeps for moving with the door open, having the hazard lights on, or some other serious fault, but can't even imagine ...

FWIW the bus industry uses 15 people per ton as the standard.

Looks recognisable even to how I know it today - the second image is the location of the bus stop we use on our Sale services!

Re: The Toughest Place to be...a Train Driver

What were the four braking systems? How did the brakeman at the rear of the train communicate with the driver? Despite the Spanish /English phrase book it was obvious that most of the time there was an (unseen) interpreter present. He never actually drove the train “by himself” there was always a q...

A very enjoyable programme; what a contrast between our railways and those of the FCCA!
