Damn - that's triggered off a long forgotten memory (if that's not an oxymoron!)! As a small child (so we're talking late sixties, possibly early seventies here) we used to go down and stay with my grandmother in Weston-Super-Mare, travelling by train. Somewhere along the route was a station, freque...

Always glad of an opportunity to say a big "Thank you!" to all the modellers out there who have done such a splendid job bringing the UK railways to life on the PC! Also to Matt and all at Atomic for giving them a home and the rest of us a place to talk about this weird and wonderful hobby of ours (...

RA9 actually meant that the vehicle (loco, wagon or whatever) required an exceptional loads form in order to run. This lays down a specific route which must not be deviated from. All of the Foster Yeoman stuff (loco's and wagons) were RA9 when first introduced. Similarly preserved steam loco's were ...

To try and put the Captain Pugwash discussion to rest once and for all. It is an urban myth! John Ryan, the author, succesfully brought law suits against the Evening Standard, The Guardian and, I think, The Scotsman for printing the myth. For full details this is one of the better web sites: http://...

To place a static consist: Right click where you want the consist to go. Select "Place consist" and either select an existing consist or create a new one. For "yard filling" I tend to keep a selection so as to keep the number of consists down , so I have things like "Static PO wagons", "Static BR Va...

I've encountered this on a number of routes, the most recent being the Manningtree-Harwich route, where the signal controlling the down line junction at Manningtree seems to suffer from this very problem. It does seem to have something to do with gradients, but is not very easy to nail down precisel...

Forgive my ignorance, but wouldn't it be possible to get a BHP reading for all of these engines - my understanding is that BHP is the amount of force that has to applied to a brake to stop the shaft turning at a given throttle setting - this can surely be done with any engine - or have I been misinf...

Part of the functions of these exams is to see how you react under pressure. I did the CAA air traffic control entrance exams many moons ago, and part of that consists of a series of spatial analysis problems. Each exam you do, the problems get harder, the number of questions gets larger, and the ti...
