Virtual Railroads

Does anyone know of a virtual railroad, preferably UK based, rather like VATSIM but for MSTS. Don't mention the American NERR, tried it twice, full of bugs and endless frustration.

It is finished

Eventually, the project is done, and works a treat. At the moment I'm missing the cable to transfer pictures to my PC but I'll give it a good description. First, for the naysayers let's outline what it doesn't do. It doesn't have proportional controls like Raildriver, all levers yield a forward or a...

Re: Poor mans Rail Driver with a Joystick

I've seen all the fancy ones such as the trainmaster one. The one I'm making will be a desktop style thing similar in size to Raildriver with controls laid out in a logical fashion. No feedback to the device, that is all on the screen. It's not a market killer, it's an effort to have a useful contol...

Re: Poor mans Rail Driver with a Joystick

Experiment 2 Can more than one game controller be used to emulate more keys. Yes, one copy of the programme will deal with one controller, subsequently opened copies of the programme seem to automatically open with a different configuration switched in and looking at a different controller, up to a ...

Re: Poor mans Rail Driver with a Joystick

Hello again I have started making the fabled machine. I'm currently waiting for three gamepads which have cost me three quid each on Ebay, the pushbuttons and switches and microswitches etc are suprisingly cheap also, for example 15 pence for a pushbutton. It looks like it's going to cost in the are...

Re: Poor mans Rail Driver with a Joystick

There's no plans for production, the first message was a heads up so that many people could use something useful that I had found. I'm not a writer of DLLS, I'm a backyard mechanic, and if I can make something useful for little cost I will be sharing the information so that other backyard mechanics ...

Re: Poor mans Rail Driver with a Joystick

Well it won't all be buttons, the intention is to have T bars, joysticks, rocker switches, whatever is needed.

Greatest thing though is the ability to have a totally custom layout.

Re: Poor mans Rail Driver with a Joystick

I like the logitech mouse thing, the French programme won't do shift G, it has to do each key seperately but that's no problem since the little switches and push buttons i need seem to be around seven quid for a hundred, I'll probably make a little rocker for the points switching which pushes a G bu...

Update 1

Right, the project in on. If you've always fancied a Raildriver but can't justify the price, watch this space. What we will end up with is something that lacks proportional control and doesn't have a speed display but will have a series of dedicated cotrols for all functions of the sim. Having done ...

Re: Poor mans Rail Driver with a Joystick

In reference to fancy electronics and raildriver, well one advantage that raildriver has is proportional control of things such as regulator, reverser and brakes, which do require something special which directly talks to MSTS etc. Accepting the lack of such proportional control with this little int...

Re: Poor mans Rail Driver with a Joystick

Yes I have tried it and am using it quite well. I had tried the proper thing from Logitech and it didn't work, I think that MSTS looks a bit lower down, but this one works so low that according to the programmer, only the dos prompt reaches lower. The neat thing is that it will store a number of dif...

Poor mans Rail Driver with a Joystick

I have discovered a useful program that takes a feed from a joypad and emulates the keyboard. I had previously tried a Logitech one but Train sim ignored it. While browsing some German and French Train sim pages I found this little programme. It's small, simple, dead easy to use and actually works, ...
