What about locomotive boilers that perform per the Stephensonian principal too? i.e. the harder the loco is working, the greater the heating area, as the front end of the tubes gets hotter and boils more water faster etc.

Yeah, and one particular guy from 3dts thinks he's a bit of an oracle when it comes to a)knowing your facts b)knowing more than KUJU about the make up of a .eng file c)generally knowing more than anyone else about steam locos! Anyway the 14XX now has a saturated boiler as I'm sure Swindon (da...

I'm doing a .eng file for a 14XX (grudgingly mind!) and I guess this would be a saturated boiler bearing in mind what use they were made for.

That sounds about right Rick, although they were only really used on larger locos (i.e. not tanks or locos made with light qwork in mind)to provide more power as the steam was in effect expanded twice and therfore making the boiler more economical.

Thanks Rick. I a working on some .eng files for Martin (aka Saddletank) and I have yet to see a 4-4-0T with a superheated boiler! Came to the same conclusion earlier this afternoon about how one gets a saturated boiler in msts.

Colz I cannot understand what you are talking about, who have the Gresley Society never heard of? Why is 12lbs per hour ludicrus? I seem to remember you were complaining that msts locos didn't use enough coal, now you are complaining they use too much?? Also, I tried what you suggested re the shovel...

Well people say that if you want something doing, do it youself, so I have. I've cracked the shovel probs, thanks for your help though Rick. It wil now make an appearance in Peter Harveys new B1's.

Does our driving really need to be 100% whilst driving Tony Blair, he normally goes by car anyway? Is Stephen Byers involved anywhere?

How can one stop these from happening in msts? As an engineman I know that very few are fatal, and they are very unlikely to happen, they would mainly happen with the regulator shut and the door open and the blower of or on a very low setting. In msts we can have blowbacks going through a tunnel wit...

That's obviously a tunnel you are going to need to fire in, am I right in thinking it's got a few big gradients too? However, if you shut off so that you can do some firing, then you will probably stop, and if you've got a big coal train on the back you might never get the thing started again! Such ...

Well the whole troble started when I upped the rate it brunt the coal on Peter Harvey's soon to be released B1, I have fired B1's so I know how much they use, however, I could put the values I wanted into the .eng file as the shovel would not allow me to keep up (I never use the AI fireman). Also wh...

Kev

Downloaded some of your Talyllyn locos today, however, would it not be better to have the .eng files based on something lik Terry's Inglis? Would this be more realisic, I could do the .eng files if you like as long as someone can give me the correct specs for the locos.

Keep up the good work!!

Yes, but when it is shoveling at 100% the fire mass only inceases by 1lb each time, is there any way of making it go up in 10lb lumps?
