Re: Short update about Open Rails #4
>I wouldn’t recommend carrying the OS from the old machine to the new one. The drives should be reformatted with a fresh OS while connected to the new hardware. I will see what happens these drives have already been swapped twice and Windows has yet to complain, it does not bother linux. If it blows...

Re: Short update about Open Rails #4
Currently the new system does not have windows installed on it although it is highly likey I will put the drives of the old machine into it as they are the same if/when OR provides this resolution. Now I checked RailSimulator at 2560x1600 on the 305T with the E6850 machine with a Radeon 4870 GPU and...

Re: Short update about Open Rails #4
It is not that I do not wish to discuss this its that this is not the forum for purely computer related issues. In this case issues not directly related to OR. I agree with you about computers should perform as good as they supposed. In this case the machine in question is one of my older work machi...

Re: Short update about Open Rails #4
Thanks for the reply, but at this stage neither machine uses anything like the 2 gig that is in them and I am a great believer in "If its not broken don't fix it".

Re: Open Rails Website - Your Images
Do not be afraid to give OR a go. One major reason why developers do releases such as this is to maintain interest and hopefully get some well thought out inteligent performance reports. When working developing a program it is always nice to make sure it works on other peoples systems. It is REAL ea...

Re: Open Rails Website - Your Images
So far i've been really impressed but as far as Signalling goes? Any signals present when running activities? Cheers As far as I am aware of the answer to that is not currently. OR has said I believe that signalling is still an aspect they working on, but it is certainly looking good so far. Lindsay

Re: OR potential
Not sure if I should put this up........................................ Talking about "cabsway", the old saying comes to mind "What is one mans meat is another mans poison". I have a couple of problems with it, first is not all trains sway, for instance in Victoria (Aus) on the VLocity service to B...

Re: Water Representation
Any improvement in the graphics is of course OK (Note 1) as long as it's not at the expense of the train simulation itself. My main point is we need to be realistic in what can be acheived so development does not go up somewhere impossible to get to. Hmmmmm, Note to self not happy with this explanat...

Re: Water Representation
What makes or breaks a train sim? just some thinking out load. I have been doing a bit of experimenting on an OpenGL terrain display programming, the following is some thoughts based on this expierence......... To get anything like a realistic view requires more CPU and GPU power than will be availi...

Re: Please ask your OR V128 questions here:
My grateful thanks to all who are developing this sim, sadly my skills do not include programming. Kindest regards Ray I am just what one may say an interested bystander.......... but in an open source project as complex as this there is always much that needs to be done. Particularly in rail...

Re: Q & A Knowledgebase, good idea?
"Is a question and answer knowledgebase a useful and convenient tool for quick reference" Absolutely, more than a few users get to know more about what makes a item or object tick than the people creating it thought posssible. Such a knowledge base can be very usefull. The down side of it though is ...

Re: Feedback and Thanks
I couple of comments on the subject of feedback. I have done a couple of cabviews for MSTS but as yet have not uploaded them due to some IP rights issues that need to be resolved. But one thing I have been doing that touches on this issue, I have been reporting on a major rail project here in Austra...

Re: Distant mountains again
The problem with distant mountains is that the triangle count that the graphics has to draw goes up by the square of the viewing depth and in an application that is already pushing the triangle count therefore runs into trouble. So if you wish to have distant terrain you MUST be able to drop the det...
