Re: The Bombardier Siemens IEP
There'll be a straight electric version, a diesel (self-powered sorry) version and pointless version, I mean, "dual-mode" version. With what structural design variations? If anyone has a brain they would surely have made the power systems interchangeable. Looking at some of the various CG renders, ...

Re: The Bombardier Siemens IEP
I fail to see the logic of the decision, other than the Hitachi bid is reputedly cheaper. That said, as yet Hitachi have no in-service traction experience in the UK. Those Javelins better be reliable...

Re: Your Train Journeys!
The same journey I do every weekday morning:
06:44 southeastern service from Whitstable to London Victoria. Late again! When's that TSR at Swanley going?
Tonight, it'll be the 16:42 from Victoria to Dover Priory, changing at Faversham to pick up the Ramsgate train.

Re: HST to Fratton?
Surely it can't be clearance issues with 23m stock as the 442s were cleared through St Denys weren't they? Or were they diverted via a different route when there was engineering works? 442s and 444s run via fareham and st denys when the SWML is shut, and 444's have run the solent stopper before, i'...

As Allypally said they were sent North as having only 2 axels created excessive wear on the bendy track. (Sorry couldn't think of a better word for bendy.)

Re: Mk 3 Capacity
As built, the Mk3 TSOs had 72 seats mainly grouped around tables. Upon refurbishment in the mid to late 80s, more unidirectional seating was added, raising the seating capacity to 76. It's generally stayed around that number, but recent refurbishments for the privatised TOCs have seen some vehicles ...

Re: Class 158
The recession of the early 90s left RR with too many 158s for their needs. NSE were developing the 171 which would've been similar to a 166 but narrower to meet loading gauge restrictions. As part of the agreement for taking RR's excess 158s, NSE also took over the Worcester line services out of Pad...

Re: International Locomotives
The French loco you're thinking of is the CC 40100 class, which can run on 4 different voltages and was built to the UK loading gauge.
With the Taurus, I wonder if we'll see them build a UK demonstrator if more electrification is forthcoming.
