Re: BR CLASS 316 - livery details???
The 457 when AC testing as a 316 was in NSE colours. You'd have to replace a TSO with a Class 313 PTSO.

Re: Out with the old and in with the new (Diesel > Electric) HST
in 6 months time, i think someones pulling his leg. Once the new electric trains are built they will also go onto the ECML relieving the 91's and HST's of their duties. Meaning a possible cascade of 91's will probab ly go to the MML. What with the recession, I would hope the decision to remove the ...

Re: Great Northern services in eighties
As for the Peterborough service, AFAIK it was loco hauled at that time (probably 31s), and remained so until electrification up to Peterborough during the 80s, when 317s took over. I don't think it was exactly a frequent service either. I think there was a DMU shuttle service from Peterborough to H...

Re: Electrification of the GWML
There's plenty of diversionary routes to cope anyway. The Reading-Waterloo line, the B&H line. I reckon they'll electrify via Bristol Parkway first as the Bath route has more tunnels and viaducts, thus presenting a greater technical/engineering challenge.

Re: End of class 421s on Lymington branch?
The cost in electricity usage of a 421 is negligable. If SWT were that concerned about rising electricity costs, they'd surely be cutting back on all their electric services.

If you look at the map on the BBC article, the Bath route appears to be included.energize wrote:And yes, not electrifying Bath-Bristol seems like a grave omission.

Re: The aesthetic thread aka "Fugly"
I had the ridges down as override protection. How important this is so high above the buffer beam and on a freight loco I don't know! If that’s what why they look like that! Indeed. There's already override protection on there: they're called "buffers". Maybe the paper got scrunched up when they we...

Re: The aesthetic thread aka "Fugly"
We definitely haven't gone back in time have we and it's definitely not April the 1st?
Damn.
I was hoping GE would unveil what the new Class 70 really looks like.
A question though, the serrated light clusters, what's that about? Surely not override protection.

Re: End of class 421s on Lymington branch?
Extending platforms is expensive. What's the situation at Lymington Town though, does the platform physically need extending or is it a question of rehabilitating disused parts of the platform? Surely it would've been suitable for 4car operation at some point because wasn't the line operated by VEP...

Re: NXEC to be taken into public ownership
I don't think any of the competition issues raised are a major concern, London - Scotland is a very small % of the WCML & ECML business and there is plenty of competition with the airlines. As for FCC how could it be viewed as a monopoly when NXEA has all services into Liverpool Street, SWT has all...

Re: NXEC to be taken into public ownership
The problem now is who will take over when the franchise is re-let. First can't operate it as that'll have competition issues with running FCC at the London end, TPE in the middle and ScotRail at the other end. Then there's also Hull Trains who will in effect be competing with another First Group co...

I hold an annual season, so does anyone know if the 1/3 off I get is applicable to the supplement? I thought I read somewhere that it was.
