What people seem to forget is its hardly an intercity long distance journey and the service is operated by what I would call Semi-Fast units. I think because of the sheer number of passengers that are moved into London on a morning having specialised coaches is as Southern said, impractical. I also ...

TOC Names

After the debate about FCC in another thread, I was wondering what everyone’s favourite names for TOCs are, it can be as far into the past as you like, present day and possible future ones. Personally I quite like Great North Eastern Railway, or of course British Rail always proved quite popular :...

I read that article on page 3 of todays (now yesterdays) Times. Its the interior displays, your telling me SWT carn't replace them before 31st July? Anyone who has been following the rail industry for a few years know SWT want to get rid of these units, this is the perfect excuse. Yes I agree the wh...

Send away!!! Didn't First get 9,000 complaints after they made proposals to cut back services. The more pressure the travelling public put on them the better, First are looking to save a few £ here and there, and basically in my opinion deter people from considering using certain routes.

Are metal detectors necessary?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/4926246.stm Do we really need them at train stations? Is it a big enough concern and who's paying for it all? I hope it's not the now inconvenienced regular traveller; surely this kind of thing is only going to make people ponder if train travel is s...

In 30 years time...

Although HST's still have a good 10 years in them yet (fingers crossed) they are clearly far more popular now with enthusiasts than they were when they were introduced. So, in 30 years time will we all be up in arms about the loss of our then beloved Voyagers and Meridians?

St Pancras is not big enough... fact. I'm not sure if it is still 6 platforms for MML but by the time of completion MML will only have 4 designated platforms. Off peak services require 4 arrivals and 4 departures an hour, including turn around time. Trains can no longer lye idle in platforms they ha...

I don't know if anyone read the article in Rail about this but basically every cost benefit analysis pointed to GNER being given the extra path and not GC. The article, which was written by Richard Bowker explains that if GNER had been given the additional path it would of been better benefit to the...

Sounds nice on paper, and the first 50 of the 100 miles to Leicester are already electrified. MML might have something to say about it all, also the line speed is only 110 at the moment, I would assuming speeding it up to anything about 125 will take major work.

2 Teenages Die after being hit by Standard Express (Friday)

I guess the title speaks for itself, they were on a footcrossing, so at least its not a case of trespass. My thoughts are with the freinds and families, as well as the driver and other railway staff. Strange that they were struck on a long open straight and that their friends ran off before emerganc...

Does anybody know for sure if they will cut 4 car trains to just 3? Or is there also a level of service increase involved, such as Virgins hourly to half hourly.

Which is faster?

Not a trick question, was wondering which would be the best performer (i.e. Acceleration etc),

A class 66 with 20 equally loaded wagons
or
A two identical class 66's with 40 equally loaded wagons?
