Re: NXEC to be taken into public ownership
Well who ever it is I hope through Cleethorpes-Lincoln-London trains can be re-introduced ..... and a similar price to they were under BR. Its a shame on the hand that NXEC did have some nice ideas, such as the York slows, 2 hourly Lincoln service and extending some of the Leeds, although they also...

Re: Here's a couple of questions for you
Ah, that would be Hyundai Rotem as well then. Personally I'd like to see the order go to Bombardier purely for the fact that they'd be made in Britain and it'd help keep some of the countries train fleets compatible. Would not be happy to see it go to China!

Re: Here's a couple of questions for you
The FGW DMU order, which doesn't have to be 172's, is part of a new order for 202 DMU carriages of which Northern, FGW and TPE will benefit. As nobody wants to buy diesel trains a new ROSCO has been set up by the government and is called Diesel Trains Ltd, with the idea it can be sold after the cred...

Cheers for the heads up Jon, I logged on here, saw that, realised it was half 7 so went and watched it. Was basic but interesting non the less, the high output track renewal machine is quite fascinating!

Re: Top Gear and Tornado
I don't think this should be taken too seriously! Was just a nice time. :) What Richard said. Fantastic show and very entertaining. As has been mentioned elsewhere the train arrived ontime irrespective of the stopper. It was good to hear both May and Clarkson take their hats off to that loco, a won...

Re: Southeastern Class 395 start passenger services end of June!
I need to be convinced by the sliding doors. Seeing what happens to a 75 mph train, for example class 150, sliding doors after a year or two where they rattle and bang on their runners, and are virtually impossible to seal out wind noise and draughts, surely a single or double "plug" door as with m...

The two NXEC sets would only be hired in on Saturdays and Sundays when there are fewer services on the ECML. The NXEC sets will be running the Manchester services.

Re: Hull Trains says "Goodbye" to the Class 222
Thought so. Went to London recently and noticed they have a lot of 222's diagrams running. Only spotted about 2 HST's. Thats because they're cutting back, they have around 9 HST sets and diagram around 5 a day, mostly on the peak services in (morning) and out (afternoon) of London. 3 sets sit in Cr...

Re: York - York via Carlisle
I'd almost certainly go via Settle, the fantastic scenery will make up for the extra journey time, you can also download an audio guide for the route from: http://www.settle-carlisle.co.uk . (See audio guide at the top). I did the route on a wet and windy January afternoon and it was still amazing. ...

Thanks for sharing, very interesting. In the 'forest eco station' I wonder if they realise that for every line of trees that they put in the car park they are moving the station a few meters further away?

Re: 12 hour journey
Nobody made the journey it was a fault somewhere in the magical world of the internet that suggested a rather round about route. Much like the ones that Top Gear highlighted regarding road directions where a certain route planner told people to take the ferry to France and back, haha. As far as I'm ...

In total they have 27 units and a further two on loan from SWT to cover for the one that hit a bridge and is currently in Crewe and one to cover the refurbishment progra...

Re: Class 55 engine managment
wow so a double headed Deltic (which I assume was very rare?) would have had the sound of 4 engines roaring away! Amazing. I agree the sound is unforgettable, I've only ever ridden one once on the mainline and that was just after privatisation when Virgin XC hired one in to cover for a class 4...
