Thanks guys, and funnily enough I started the modelling last night while I was watching some Toolman on Home Improvement! (Can't be beaten)
Will put up some screenies in the next few days as it becomes more decent.

....thing is I'm just too inquisitive not to give it a go

Sorry for the double post - I forgot to mention that this is going to be, of course, released freeware but in addition to this all the models, skins, sounds etc are going to be open source, which hopefully will help new people interested in development understand how these things are done.
