Well done people. I think the latest video clip is really impressive, I especially like the steam and smoke effects.

We thought that some clarification is required. Is that code for 'boss kicked my arse for being terse with the punters ?' Probably not, just my fertile imagination. Much better second response tho, I was confused until then. Thanks to this thread for my friday chuckle. I reckon no need to rus...

Yes nice tute. It's always amazing how someone makes something seem dead simple that I'd faffed around for days trying to get the hang of. I don't have 3D Max though. Putting up my 'Blender' hand again rah rah. It does nice models and can do normal maps easily. http://feeblemind.tuxfamily.org/dotcle...

Another problem with large viewing distances is screen resolution. At a few miles most scenery is only a pixel or two in size. I'd also suggest that the FSX engine is going to need some prodding and tweaking to deliver good results for a train sim. Release date? I'll take bets on 1.5 to 2 years from...

Yeh I'd reckon so. Diffuse of course has to be included and opacity I assume is built in by default too. It's been a while since I read up but IIRC bump maps are 1D and normal maps are 3 axis (3D), and properly created normal maps require using a high poly model in the first place. Normal maps creat...

I'd bet one is 3 months away, but the other closer to 3 years away. MSTS 'next' would seem to not be out of the design phase yet.

Oh good, someone may model the world's steepest railway - the Katoomba scenic railway in Australia.

The track is up 52 degrees or 1 in 0.82 or 122% steep.

Needs a bit of sand to get started in the wet ...

I knocked this Lear 35 (WIP) model up in Blender in 2 days. It uses no bitmapped textures (yet), just blender materials on the mesh itself.

Yes I know it doesn't have windows yet.

Yes I know it isn't a train :D

For graphics work being a Gimp user I just noticed GimpShop ie 'The Gimp' hacked to be similar to photoshop http://plasticbugs.com/?page_id=294 If you’ve never used Photoshop before, you may not appreciate my GIMPshop hack. What I’ve done is renamed and reorganized GIMP’s tools, options, windows, an...
