Hmm. 95 people have looked at this post, but still no answers, so I'll try if you're still looking for a reply. When you say "broken [shape] files", what do you mean? Which shape files do you mean - the refuelling points? And in what way are they broken - are they missing textures? Do the water cran...

One point - I don't think the RE will allow you to enter negative numbers when setting terrain height, which is a shame because the sea bed is, well, below sea level. However, using the track/road placement idea you can go as deep as the tile floor setting. If you want cliffs, the embankment (and mo...

A couple of other things: (1) If you're building a route with lots of tunnels, don't put off the business of making the holes in the landscape and filling in the unwanted spaces with transfers until later. It has to be the most tedious, fiddly, irritating, annoying and... and... ooh, I'll think what...

Yes - and you've said it: Track (then roads); then scenery; then interactives (including platforms). Though I don't think there's any harm in mixing track-laying and scenery placement if you fancy some variety in your work, you're likely to have problems if you change the track database after you've...

Have you got NumLock on? And if the keys in the block of 6 above the 4 arrow keys don't work, check that the keyboard Windows thinks is installed (Control Panel->Keyboard) is the one you're actually using. [Edit] Sorry, I meant "Control Panel->Regional Options->Input Locales". Silly of me - of cours...

Paul, This may also apply in some cases to rotated textures as well as distorted ones. Below are a couple of shots of a gabled semi with bay windows, first in SketchUp, then in MSTS: [album 131809 tds2gables-Sketchup.jpg thumblink][album 131809 tds2gables-MSTS.jpg thumblink] The texture on the bay w...

Ah, now I see what you mean - I think. Draw an upright rectangle to represent the end of the bridge side, then (using the pencil rather than the draw-a-square tool) draw the end of the handrail starting from the mid-point of the top (If it's easier, you could try drawing the diagonals to guide where...

I'm not sure what you mean by "line up". But the easiest way to do this sort of thing in Sketchup is to produce the first box, then draw the shape of the second box on the top surface (either "by hand" or, in certain cases, using the offset tool) and pull up the required bit of the top surface using...

You are not wrong, Doug - so I won't correct you. Yes, the image you use does have to be square; if it isn't, makeace (or aceit, or whatever) won't convert it into an .ACE file. This is why the Lord gave us PaintShop Pro :) I should perhaps have mentioned this point. However, the tutorial is useful ...

Have a quick look at http://download.sketchup.com/GSU/tutorials/Textures_UsingPhotos/Textures_UsingPhotos.html . This tutorial and (if I recall correctly) the one that follows it show how to use pictures as textures - or, in our case, texture files of the 'traditional' sort described in the MSTS tec...

Are you drawing the diamond cut-outs in the physical shape? The poly count would go down dramatically if you left the sides as plain rectangles and used a "conventional" texture (i.e. as MSTS models have usually been made, rather than the Sketchup method of creating a shape and painting it) with an ...
