A little more worrying for me is the fact that aerosoft who produce add ons for MSTS of which I have a few do not even mention or sell KRS on their site and are still developing new add ons for MSTS unless I am missing something.

Just use the normal uninstall process and then check and delete any leftover files/folders. I had this problem at the start and as Stewart said you have to cancel by pressing the "Q" key as fast as possible.
"Q" only works properly in the expert controls AFAIK.
