Route building might be easier in terms of terraforming and laying track, but have you considered that creating the objects to populate the landscape might take a lot longer? In the screen shots I've seen of KRS I was struck by how much more detailed the buildings and vegetation looked. I have a rou...

Just thinking about what this thread implies, some of the routes now being developed on machines with MSTSbin are therefore not going to be able to run on machines that do not have the patch, because there will be too many objects on the tiles for the vanilla MSTS? Perhaps MSTSbin should be identifi...

"I just hate things jumping out of the ground as you approach them" Me too, especially when I'm in my car :) I think the stutter is visually acceptable because it's similar to blinking, but the jumping effect of the LOD's really spoils the sim for me, it's probably closer to nodding off at the wheel.

Is this LOD-Killer available for download? I would like to have a play and see what difference it makes. (I just tried a library search and turned nothing up).

The cab file or sound file you have downloaded is not to be placed in the folder for the particular engine that is going to use it; instead, it will be placed in a folder that will allow other engines to also use that same cabview or sound set, effectively by sharing it. The downloaded cab or sound ...

Thanks for that suggestion about the windows key, I've had MSTS crash when I've used ESC to freeze the sim to answer the phone or make a coffee, and it's infuriating to lose where you were.

I had similar problems with this line, with Skipton, and with Dorset, which seemed to be due to sounds. You'll find some old threads dealing with what size the sound buffers should be set to, but I and several other people found setting them to 0 seemed to cure the problem. Have a search for soundcf...

I've been using 1.6, and I'm just trying 1.7 on several mini routes. I only run steam, so I probably don't get any of the dual-cab benefits. I've seen fewer lockups with bin that when I was trying to run largish routes like Skipton and Bala Hub on the old MSTS

Well, the good news is, your MSTS installation is OK. If you've got csdiff or some other file comparison utility, you could try compaing the file against a similar engine file that doesn't cause the problem to see if there is anything obviously wrong, such as an excessive value. I think the ConTEXT ...

Is it any steam engine, such as the Scotsman supplied with MSTS, or is it an add-on? Also, are you using simple controls? I've had strange behaviour in the past with some engines I downloaded from UKTrainsim, which went away when I turned off simple controls, but I never saw the particular problem o...

I also think that the early engines had no brakes, at least not enough to bring a train to a halt, hence the development of brake vans and guards. For a long while the only brakes on the wagons in freight trains were the manual wagon brakes, and at the top of descents the train would halt and the br...

Southeastern Branchline is a very nice little route with a mixture of Hawkhurst and Westerham to it. It needs UKFS, but if you're going to try Steyning you'll have already installed enough to get the route to run. Also try Lyme Regis for a nice LSWR feel, and if you like collieries, Foxfield, by the...

I found some engines wouldn't work properly on the simple controls. No matter how many times you pressed 'D' the engine would simply judder and not move away. I first found it on an Adams Radial tank and asked this group about it. No-one could work out why the simple controls wouldn't work properly ...

The moths on the Lexx seemed to need replacing frequently.
