Hi Another way to fix bouncing and binding (probably the easiest way) and for passenger equipment probably isn't too inaccurate; define "CouplingHasRigidConnection ( )" in the Coupling section. I leave the option parameter blank although the docs say '0' or '1'. I've found no difference, all values ...

Hello, If it's an activity you're creating, may I suggest you have the initial Player consist moving at 0MPH because when you switch cabs you are instantly moving at the initial start speed. Additionally, the loco you switch to must also have a cab defined, you can't use a loco that's been "AI'd". G...

Hi Reverse Points (RP) can be tricky to place. The point must be located at a point where the entire train is clear of the switch you wish to reverse into. The location for the RP becomes difficult to find if the length of the train is different from the consist you start the activity with because t...

Hi Richard Another way that should work instead of a low 'performance' value is modify the .eng file. Try a low "MaxVelocity" value such as 0.1 MPH. That'll slow it down. Of course, you probably want to bump up the performance again or it may never appear to move. Oh that's what you want isn't it! ;...

I was one of a small group who assisted Neville with some of the release packaging for Northrail. This route does push the video hardware and MSTS pretty hard. I found setting 'Train object quality' at 2 usually calmed MSTS down. If you still have problems, try setting 'World object quality' at 2 as...

Hi I also noted that in a couple "Default Performance" threads post that haven't been replied to (perhaps the confusing threads). A work around seems to be to set the "D.P." to 5% which appears to be about equivalent to the old 1% speed. I am pleased to see someone else has finally noticed this prob...

Hi and perhaps a bit of clarification... Waiting times don't work with the original MSTS, just with the newer MSTSbin (1.6). In the old Activity Editor, one waiting point would work but only during that invocation of the edit of the activity. Reloading the activity would set it back at zero although...

Hello I used to see the sound looping/crash problem, usually occurring after clearing the activity brief and if I started pressing keys right away in the activity. Waiting ten seconds or so before pressing a key would usually solve that looping/crash glitch. I also have (not with bin) seen it happen...

Default Performance (again)
Hello Well this time I did a few tests and would like some enterprising soul or three to confirm my observations. (These latest tests were run with MSTSbin 1.6.1022) Easiest way to test; use side by side tracks and set an AI loco beside the player loco. Set the Player loco at 0 MPH because you just ...

Hi In the past, I've had problems restoring MSTS to a running state after ALT-Tab minimizing. Currently all is fine although if it's been minimized for a while (overnight for example) it can take a while before it actually runs. I assume it's been spooled out and needs to be reloaded from the spool ...

Hi Sharon, I saw your initial problems with backing through misaligned switches. I guess resaving the activity with 1.6 is the fix. Not a problem with the one I've been working with and as I said yesterday, all is looking promising now although running time is scarce for a day or two; I will give a ...

Thanks Tinsley, That would explain the 0-55MPH instant acceleration. I do start that activity with the train in motion and that is about the starting speed. It would have taken me a while to figure that one out! For now, I'll just keep in mind that for this activity I don't switch cabs; a very simpl...

Hi All Well it looks like the XP Installer might have gotten me (again). I was explaining the MSTSbin options to a friend on the phone but couldn't remember them all so I uninstalled and reinstalled MSTSbin to see them. Later, I ran a saved version of the activity just before I have the helper come ...
