Hi With my experimentation with Levels Of Detail (LOD) and Train Object Quality (TOQ) I found that each decrease of TOQ lowers the starting LOD. If there is only one LOD, then that is the one you will always see; if two LOD's, TOQ=3 will show 2 LOD's , TOQ=2 will only show the second LOD and so on a...

Hello Mick You're assuming three items, all of which need to be accurate for what you're trying to do. - Is a MSTS mile a real mile? - Is the Speedometer accurate (I've seen posts about how inaccurate it is)? - Has the route been accurately measured and laid out? The answer is probably no for more t...

Hello The placement of a RP (Reverse Point) can be quite tricky when building an activity. If it's too close (the entire train must have cleared the switch it's controlling) it will never trigger, yet, if it's too far away, realism suffers. I ran an activity with the latest MSTSbin version yesterday...

Hello Peter

Otto has mentioned this to George. Some cars just don't stop so MSTSbin never sees 0.000 MPH as the speed and it won't allow the cab switch.

The next version might allow for a bit of movement to overcome this problem.

You do NOT need to reinstall MSTS just because you've lost a shortcut! If MSTS still runs, the editor also will if you have the correct shortcut. At Train-Sim.com, a search for two words, edit and shortcut (with the advanced 'and' option) found the fix in a couple seconds. It might also be here on t...

Hi I use mini-routes here for the majority of my routes. To run MSTS itself, it doesn't matter where it's installed as long as you're starting the train.exe that's located in the main directory of the route you're starting. Where problems might occur is if you're using one of the MSTS editing progra...

Hello Art To ease troubleshooting, what was the exact name of the file you downloaded ("i downloaded the bin activities for GE into my Trainset Folder"). Next what was the next step you did. Do you have an active and current viruschecker? Do you have antispyware (example spybot or defender) running?...

I'm running MSTS on a Firewire drive and also use USB drives for my backups. I occasionally had dropping off-line problems with both types of drives. The USB problems were cured by using a better quality USB cable; the Firewire problem was cured by changing from a 6pin-4pin to a 6pin-6pin cable. I g...

Hello I've noticed with MSTS (not checked since MSTSbin) that any random sounds that are being applied during running of MSTS continue to be queued but because of the ESC-pause, they aren't heard ... until we start running MSTS again, then all the queued sounds start getting played in sequence. I no...

Merry Christmas Otto and Gang All I'm trying to point out is there are some naming impacts with this latest version that did not cause MSTS or previous versions of MSTSbin to choke. The sensitivity to the second underscore "_" in the path was the strangest. The fixed path name length is identical, j...

MSTSbin 1.6.122319 Name Sensitivity

Hi I run mini routes here and found the following path naming bug... "D:\MSTS\MSTS_Standalone\MSTS_MLT\Train Simulator" MSTSbin installed in this mini-install dies immediately after showing the allocated memory. By dies, I mean the task just disappears. If I rename it to "MSTS-MLT" instead of "MSTS_...

Hi Could it be partly due to Bounding Box problems? You can have cars with poorly defined boundaries in a consist that will be coupled at the start of an activity but won't recouple after uncoupling. Try looking with Shape Viewer and use Control-D to show the size as defined in the .sd file. If the ...

Hi 24Feb The cab files (.cvf) are written with a Unicode editor, they are not compressed. If they show as characters with a blob between each character, you're not using a Unicode editor. I suggest you try Wordpad as a starter. To learn what the items mean, there isn't much written info although at ...
