Re: Changing Station Name Textures
Hi I saw a name board problem in one route I have and dug into it. The problem was that the file was a 256x256 bitmap and the closer I got to the board, the fuzzier the text got. I found the ace file and used TGATool2 to send the main file to Photoshop. Using that program, I resized the image to 102...

Re: Train sim causing overheating? Common problem? or not?
Hi One suggestion, you stated, "even though i run the fsaa and filtering switches". Might I suggest you get rid of them and enable those options in your video card options instead. The reason (as I see it). You're just making your CPU work all the harder doing those functions when the newer graphics...

Hi If you have a 'normal' MSTS installation (no mini routes, etc) and have the proper MSTS update files installed, MSTSbin will save all files it will be impacting in a new directory named MSTSBIN_BACKUP. If it finds you don't have the correct train.exe version it won't install or change anything. L...

I experimented with an ace file used for station signs where each station sign used a portion of the file. It originally was 256x256 and the resolution of the letters at close range was terrible. I sent the 256x256 image to Photoshop Elements and resized the image to 1024x12024 then replaced the let...

Hi Another thing I discovered that made a big improvement to the quality of the MSTS display was that disabling the scaling really enhanced what I saw. My display is 1860x1050 and MSTS is set at 1280x1024. It had been rescaling the 1280x1024 to ????x1050 and introduced some distortion. Once I had th...

My thinking is to eventually upgrade to PCI express with almost a new computer once you need to (and can afford the expense). For now, you still have an option open. I still prefer ATI for MSTS because I have seen a few threads where nVidia drivers seem to have some MSTS problems. Why not consider l...

Hi The Registry does have some location pointers so you do need to consider this if moving from computer to computer. Safest way is to decide where you want MSTS located in the new system then do a fresh install to that location from the CD's. Once that's done, the Registry should be properly set up...

Hello Wim I did some testing and after minimizing the LOD's (down to 1 or 2), I found MSTS did behave itself much better. This was done before MSTSbin was being used by me so I'm not sure if the above is still a benefit. I used Shape Viewer to see the quantity of lOD's and also to view them; Archiba...
