Re: Message requires deciphering!
Hello The colliding message can also be caused by a static consist that hits the end of a piece of track. This can easily occur if you've done coupler modifications which can change the overall length of a consist. Changed brake settings can possibly allow a bit of a roll when a consist is initially...

Re: MSTS keeps switching back to windows screen
Hi
It could also be the video card driver, I've had versions in the past (a year or two ago) that caused a lot of screen flipping during the MSTS startup.

Re: The strange case of the wheels that vanished - Black 5s
Hello Does ShapeViewer show more than one Distance Setting (LOD = Level Of Detail)? If so, see if one of the other distances shows the tender like you see in MSTS. Changing Quality settings can affect which LOD is displayed if the settings are not at maximum and multiple LOD's are defined. In the MS...

Re: Screen Resolution
Hi
There's not just a single answer your original question. It depends on the aspect ratio of the monitor (4:3, 16:9 or 16:10 for instance) as well as how many pixels it can display in each direction (probably the more important factor).

Re: It's a basic derail question I know
Hi Are you certain your train is the one derailing? It could be an AI train or perhaps even a static consist that's positioned near an end of track. Modified couplers can change the length of a car (train) thus positioning it too close to the end and running off, creating the derailed message. It co...

Re: Improve detail
Hi Mike and other interested parties I've been de-LODding shapes in almost all routes for almost two years now and have seen no noticeable impacts on MSTS (actually MSTSbin now). Before MSTSbin became available, I found de-LODding improved the stability here immensely, pretty well getting rid of all...

Re: Activity Editor Crashes
Hi Most times a "loading" crash in MSTS and/or the editor is caused by equipment you've added to MSTS since the last time the program started successfully. Some errors in an .eng or .wag file can cause this and the easiest way to find these is by using a process of elimination by moving them out of ...

Re: Sounds on AI trains
Hi AI locos can only use SL0 sounds when used in an AI consist. AI locos used in a player's consist must have the SL5, SL3 and/or SL1 sound to be able to follow the actual throttle setting. Many AI locos only have the SL0 settings so these cannot follow the throttle. I've switched most of my driveab...

Re: MSTS keeps putting my monitor on standby
Hi
When MSTS starts up, I'm pretty sure it flips into a few different screen modes while setting up. One of these may be interpreted as an invalid mode by your monitor and it's kicking itself into standby mode.

Re: To SP3 or not to SP3
Hi I've installed XP SP3 on fourPC's now. Only one heads up warning; if installing on a Mac with BootCamp, you will probably see a not enough free space error that aborts the install. There is an easy fix, a new Registry entry. At http://www.Microsoft.com, search for "sp3 BootDir" and you should fin...

Re: MSTS Uninstaller
Hi
You should be safe just deleting the directories and files. When you reinstall, the installer will just overwrite the existing registry settings for you.
Perhaps consider defragmenting the drive after you get MSTS deleted and once more after you reinstall MSTS.

Re: Strange MSTS problems after replacing Motherboard
Hi No need to uninstall. First rename your Train Simulator directory (temporary). Do a fresh Install of MSTS which along with installing MSTS will create the registry entries. Delete the newly installed Train Simulator directory. Rename the renamed Train Simulator directory back to Train Simulator. ...

Re: Better PC = slower Track Viewer?
Hi Another thought. Probably a stupid question to ask but just in case. When you open Track Viewer and it shows as a window on the Desktop, can you drag that window around smoothly? If it doesn't drag smoothly you might have a video driver or configuration issue causing the slowness problem. I would...

Re: Better PC = slower Track Viewer?
Hi If the program doesn't support multi-threading then it is probable that the program is only using one core of the Core 2 Duo and could be slower than with the previous (higher clock speed?) CPU. I have a 6700 C2D CPU here and as an example MSTS only shows 50% CPU usage because it isn't a program ...
