Re: 75027 4MT 4-6-0
Never had any problem with that loco eng file myself- used it in the std 4 multi-pack i did a while back. I seem to remember that if as usual with steam locos you start off with full reverser and a small ammount (50% or so regulator) of regulator, gradually increasing the regulator setting and decre...

Re: Why I hate Northern
Well in Hindley we've just had a leaflet put through the doors promoting our local station for rail use in a joint effort between GMPTE and Northern. If it weren't so cheesy it would be believable. Spacious car park (full at 7:30am every day) Continuous reference to off peak radically lower fares Co...

I just hope you'll grow out of it or seek mental health help matey........ Having endured the wretched things since they were built i just can't see why anyone who has to use them on a daily basis would like them! I and many others could make a long long list of whats wrong with them........but its ...

Re: Super D Cabview
Its a bit late for that one really- sadly in the last few years I've been on the super D in steam and driven S&D 88 (over a short distance but I can say I've done it!!!!)

Re: Class 142
I think there is, I can never work out why though- certainly not to encourage tourism but i can see their use as a cheap people mover for a low budget rail service- like they were used on the 'Wearydale'. I wouldn't travel across the country and spend a holiday in the area to travel on one though......

Re: Class 142
Eh? I think someone is trying to form the 142 preservation society here to save one for posterity for all the nation to show how not to build a unit. I'm sure all the commuters (myself included) and train crews who suffer them on a regular basis are writing our cheques now to help you save one. Like...

Re: ex-LNER A3s on the Settle - Carlisle in the 50s
There was a few commonly seen in the 1960s on express trains along the S&C. Sometimes on fitted freights too. Any look at one of the many photographic survey type books depicting the 1960s end of steam era in the area tends to feature quite a few A3s. They all seemed to be non-corridor tender versio...

Re: Super D Cabview
It may have a similar shaped regulator to 7f but it opens the other way- you push it down to open it. Also the general cab layout is totally different- the reverser is a wheel and there's no cut off marks on a super D and the injector steam valves are up on top of the back head. Also the pressure ga...

A little help please for Ravenglass
HI All My Ravenglass route is now very well advanced and work on the stock well in hand from Tim Elsby and Andrew Lamin. however I need a few simple signs and a wall king to help complete the route. I have photos of the signs and one of the wall. The reason why I need help is i use Google Sketchup f...

Re: Becoming a volunteer fireman...
I can say in two years you'd be lucky to gain a firing ticket at most lines (I'd imagine most would consider long term dedication of a person too), but you'd certainly get a go on the shovel under supervision in that time if you showed willing and put the work in. In fact more than 'a go' probably l...

Re: Becoming a volunteer fireman...
I can only really relate to UK steam railways, but mostly its the way its always been- serve time as a cleaner- usually around 2 years during which time you will not just clean the locos but help with various fitting tasks during the day and help crews during prep and disposal, learning more and mor...

Re: Snowdon Mountain Railway..a little project I'm working on.
Looking very good Doug, ironically where you say 'the scenery runs out' ain't that different to real life- apart from the magnificent views of course! Only ever been up by train once, walked up many times camera in hand for some excellent phots in the landscape though!

Re: Flying Scotsman
How can you 'just find' an extra £1/4 million worth of work? I hate to think how many other locos could be put back into traffic for that sum alone. I've never seen an overhaul of a working loco (not ex Barry wreck) cost so much. Either the NRM are being wasteful with their cash or taken for a ride...
