If you want to use an F5 with a cowcatcher, you will need to build the St Coombs and Wick & Lybster branches up in Bonnie Scotland! :)(Well, I think they were used on both, certainly the St Coombs.)

Ah! I can see the Coffee Pot lurking in a corner of the works! I think the B&S Lartigue will prove that MSTS is not dead or incapable of further surprises. Can't wait to see it finished ..

Or the Irish: not quite as 'bonkers' but the same sort of thing: http://www.essmee.org.uk/images/NCCRailcar01a.JPG This is Railcar No.3 of the LM&S (NCC) of Northern Ireland. The intention was that the greater visibility from the raised driver's position would allow the railcar to have a trailer at ...

You'd think such gradients would put the fear of God into a fireman, but not so. So long as you prepare for it and the rail is dry, a continuous steep ascent is not dau...

There was also a Loco Profile of the 4-12-2 Union Pacific type if you can find it (I have a copy). Very nice double-page spread of the beast. I wonder what Messrs Gresley & Holcroft thought about the use of their conjugated gear for the 3rd cylinder - not quite a high-flying A3!

The Saint is a wonderful sight - going in the right direction chronologically as far as I'm concerned :D And Ashton Court (if it's the one t'other side of the Avon by Brissle) has fond memories for me as a childhood playground. So now how about a square ended footplate version in 1900s livery a la C...

Oh good - how about a grown-up equine to fulfill the role of Dick, the Fintona Tram motive power?

Image

Poor old Dick - she had to be put in a special 'loco shed' whenever her steamy equivalents passed by.
